EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (train derail)

LightRoasted

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

Shouldn't THE RAILROADS be responsible for Track / Train Maintenance

Yes they should. And the maintenance and repair of those tracks should be monitored by US government regulations for sufficient safety standards since these tracks transport many a dangerous load through many a community. If our tracks were designed and laid with precision as those in Europe, Japan, and other countries, there wouldn't be as many derailments. Their rail beds are solid, rugged, straight and true. In addition to regulating individual car maintenance and repair to ensure that wheels, bearings, and brakes, do not fail.

As it turns out, according to the fact checker at The Washington Post Glenn Kessler, "Trump’s rollback of regulations can’t be blamed for Ohio train wreck."

While Kessler peppered what are apparently required criticisms of Trump in his WaPo analysis of the last administration's regulatory policies, the facts are the facts and they fall clearly on Trump's side.

Kessler explained that his team "decided to examine every possible regulatory change made under Trump that could be related to the accident and assess whether it could have made an impact," leading WaPo to conclude that "none of the regulatory changes made during the Trump administration at this point can be cited as contributing to the accident."

It's unclear whether Kessler's use of "at this point" is just an escape hatch to blunt accusations he's doing PR for the Trump administration and the president's 2024 campaign or leaving room for others to continue repeating claims that Trump is to blame for the derailment. But Kessler's analysis doesn't leave much, if any, room to argue that Trump's regulatory regime played a role in the derailment.

Some of the blame levied at Trump has cited his administration's 2017 decision to repeal an Obama-era requirement for ECP (electronically controlled pneumatic) brakes on trains deemed "high hazard" for their payloads. Noting that President Biden "has not acted to reinstate the rule," Kessler pointed to the NTSB Chair's tweet debunking the claim that Trump's repeal of the rule contributed to the East Palestine derailment:

🔥 The Post Millennial, God bless them, ran a shocking story Sunday headlined “CDC Inspectors Report Headaches, Nausea Amid East Palestine Clean Up.”

But don’t worry, the water is perfectly safe to drink. EPA administrator Michael S. Regan said he would even let his kids drink the East Palestine waters. “Yes, as a father, I trust the science,” Regan babbled incoherently.

All the sickened CDC officials did was go house to house conducting surveys. It’s not like they were digging in the creek or anything. Nevertheless, they quickly started to become ill, with symptoms including nausea and headaches.

In its completely reassuring statement the CDC said, “Symptoms resolved for most of the team later the same afternoon, everyone resumed work on survey data collection within 24 hours. Impacted team members have not reported ongoing health effects.”

Well, not yet anyway.

If you believe the CDC, it’s totally safe.

Biden Makes Excuses for Not Visiting East Palestine, Ohio – Cites His Busy Schedule (VIDEO)

It’s been months since the accidental train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio and Joe Biden still hasn’t visited there, despite saying that he would.

He was asked about this recently and he cited his busy schedule as the reason he hasn’t been there.

The only thing Biden has been busy doing lately is taking vacations.

FOX News reports:

Biden cites busy schedule when asked about visiting East Palestine, Ohio: ‘It’s going to be awhile’
President Joe Biden cited his hectic schedule when he was asked Saturday why he had not yet visited East Palestine, Ohio, months after the town was devastated by a train derailment that polluted the environment and contaminated water.
The president’s press conference in Live Oak, Florida, came in the wake of Hurricane Idalia, which caused up to $20 billion worth of damage in the Southeastern U.S., according to FOX Weather. Biden was speaking about the federal government’s efforts to provide assistance to impacted Floridians, when he was asked about the small Ohio town.
“Well, I haven’t had the occasion to go to East Palestine,” Biden began. “There’s a lot going on here, and I just haven’t been able to break.”
“I was thinking whether I’d go to East Palestine this week, but I was reminded I’ve got to go literally around the world,” the president continued. “I’m going from Washington to India to Vietnam.”
Biden then reassured the crowd that the federal government will provide East Palestine with necessary resources in the wake of the disaster.
“And so it’s going to be a while. But we’re making sure that East Palestine has what they need materially in order to deal with their problems,” he concluded.

Joe Biden Has Spent 40 Percent of Presidency Away on Personal Trips

The finding that Biden has spent 382 of his 957 days in the presidency away from the Oval Office was corroborated by the New York Post, using White House reports of Biden’s movements.

“We have millions of illegal immigrants pouring across our borders. Violent crime is surging. Inflation is crushing hard-working Americans. Our enemies around the world are emboldened,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) told the Post. “Meanwhile, Joe Biden is filmed on the beach with his handlers preventing him from speaking to the media to answer basic questions Americans deserve answers to.”

IMO, Biden should not go to East Palestine now. It's too late. No one there wants him now. It would just be another wasted trip and would point out the fact that he would only go for the photo-op.
In the picture the people were standing so far away all white people, if there had been a black person there he would have gotten closer, as seen in another photo in the article.

So, about one year late ol' slow Joe is going to visit East Palestine. Why now? Does he think he can garner support or are his "handlers" hoping he falls into a toxic pit and they can install a new leader?

There must be an ice cream store there that he hasn't tried yet.

Can't wait for his televised speech condemning Israel and calling for a cease fire.

Hard pass...

Some Ohio residents can now get $25,000 for injuries in $600 million train derailment settlement

People who live near East Palestine, Ohio, can now get $25,000 apiece for any injuries they sustained after last year’s Norfolk Southern freight train derailment on top of whatever money they get for property damage as part of the $600 million class-action settlement.

That payment for health problems is on top of the up to $70,000 households can receive for property damage. But to get the injury payment, residents who live within ten miles of where the train derailed have to agree before the Aug. 22 deadline to give up the right to sue the railroad or anyone else involved down the road even if they develop cancer or other serious health conditions later.
