I grew up hating brussels sprouts. They are now one of my favorites!

That's because those terrible boiled to death things our mothers made are vile and should be against the law. Roasted brussel sprouts is the way to go.

That's why we all hated veggies as kids, because cooking them correctly hadn't been invented yet.

Agree. And add a drizzle of reduced balsamic vinegar. 🤤

I tend to steam most of the vegs these days.

Never liked anything boiled.
I haven't boiled anything in a long time. Prefer grilled, then roasted, steamed is my least used route. Usually only because it's raining and too wet to grill.

That's exactly why people hate veggies: they don't know how to make them properly. I grew up on Italian green beans, marinated mushrooms, buttered lima beans, crispy sprouts in bals. vin, pan-fried squash, etc.

Although, same goes for fish. I find most people that dislike fish have never had it properly cooked for them 🤷

My mother grew up on everything being boiled to death. She, and 2 of her 3 brothers all taught themselves how to properly cook. One ended up a restaurant owner and now beer and wine distributor, the other is an executive chef. We're having a family get-together next week. I'm only packing stretchy pants.

I need to use my grill a bit more often but never liked grilled peas, beans or corn.

They tend to fall through the grate. :jet:

Exactly. My mom did some things okay, but most often the veggies were cooked to death. I still remember my grandmother boiling white patty pan squash until it was a big ol' pot of disgusting mush. :twitch:

I've seen them plenty of times at Harris Teeter. Giant - usually, but once or twice I've specifically needed them before and they happened to be out. I just got some last weekend at the Farmer's Market in the BAE parking lot.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

They usually have them at Whole Foods in Annapolis. But I'll bet if you asked Harris Teeter or Giant they'd be able to hook you up.

I stopped at Whole Foods in Annapolis on Monday on my way back from the shore and they had them! :yahoo: I make a dish using them (both the beets tops and bottoms) plus leeks and chicken, flavored with turmeric. Winner, winner, chicken dinner! :dingding:

BTW, if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can get some great deals at Whole Foods. All you do is shop for the blue dot items and at checkout scan the barcode for Whole Foods in the Amazon app. Wish I had had the foresight to bring a cooler for some refrigerated and frozen items as there were some great savings there, especially on seafood.

As it was, I bought two bunches of golden beets, some awesome cherries, and two large bunches of basil so I can make my own pesto again. 😋
