None were teslas, VWs and BMWs. It's just a lack of awareness on the owners part . After all it's just an extension cord, is what I said so hard to believe lol.

I mean outside of CA, I don't know many people who know many people who own EVs. So "quite a few" caught my eye.
My wife can walk into a room where there's a cord, not touch it, and it will be a Gordian Knot when she exits!
Same with mine, but she would never be plugging hers in if I wasnt on travel. :) Just like we do with gas. She actually fuels up any of the fleet once every few months.

Some I know some, some I see, look around any subdivision. they are usually located on either side of the garage. Some have LEDs on them one color showing it is on, one color while charging, super bright when fully charged. Take some time and check it out.

@glhs837 do Teslas have a safety feature that automatically brakes when there is cross traffic and they aren't paying attention?

So far this weekend two have backed out right in front of me in parking lots, next one I am not slamming on the brakes.

Yeah I don't get into subdivisions much but I'll pay attention and see what I see. It's one reason I live where I do not a huge fan of subdivisions.

When you are turning the steering wheel or going less than 3 mph it is not functional. Course I get humans doing that to me in parking lots all the time so. :)

I wonder if the drivers just think their car will do the job for them. My Toyota beeps when there is anything that might cause an issue.

Both cases the driver wasn't paying a bit of attention to what they were doing.

Not all police Tesla stories are horror ones. Some departments do the homework and ensure they are fit for that type of department.

Since then, Bargersville has added a dozen more Tesla Model 3s to its fleet. Bertram estimates the town is saving more than $80,000 annually in fuel costs and has added six officers to its police force since 2019.

Bargersville spends about $400 a month to charge 13 cars, compared with $3,100 a month to fuel that many Ford F-150s.

They replaced F-150s? Damn they could have replaced those with anything to save on fuel costs.

So last night, had a dinner with the wife's company people. About 14 people. After dinner waiting to leave, someone mentioned they knew someone who had a Tesla. Oddly enough, not one bad opinion in the bunch. About half older, 50s-60s, the rest 30s and 20s.

I don't know that Explorers get significantly better mpg. And of course the maint costs matter. No idea what departments pay for brakes, but I'm sure its not cheap. Now, police probably not doing as much one pedal driving as civilians, but still should last a lot longer than ICE brakes.

I remember one of the defining characteristics of a good police car was being able to take curb shots and survive bumps with minimal repair. Pretty sure that idea is over though, this was in the 90s when automakers were trying to get police to switch from the Crown Victoria and Caprice. The Ford interreceptor had cast iron control arms instead of the stock aluminum ones.

The saved $80k on gas and allowed them to hire 6 more officers doesn't really add up.

Yeah, different configurations for police car have sort of gone away as standard equipment has gotten a lot better. The great majority of stuff is commmon. Dodge ran the new Charger cop cars all down the line with the regulars, then trucked them over to an upfitting facility to add the second battery and wiring and such.

He didnt say that the 80 paid for six officers. I think thats why hes adding the additional cars, to equip all these new officers.
