Even then it took a couple of minutes to confront the shooter, if he wanted to shoot others he could have easily done it.
Didn't the Florida school have a SRO, but he ran out the back door. The Buffalo shooter shot the unarmed security guy 1st.
Woulda coulda shoulda. The results speak for themselves. And it was less than 60 seconds.

From the timeline released by the sheriff it was 3 minutes even though the deputy was not far away. If the child had real evil intentions he could have barricaded in a room. Just arm the teachers.
I never get why someone thinks gun control would have stopped this tragedy.
You what would have? Or might have?
1. Better followup on a known dangerous person.
2. LOCKING the damned side doors. Geez. EVERY elementary school does that.
3. An ARMED resource person at the school. If it is too expensive, there are scores of retired persons who would love to volunteer.
Blaming gun companies when there are more guns than people in this country is pointless.
OUTLAWING guns will not stop someone who is intent on committing a crime with a gun - if they plan to KILL a lot of people, they're not terribly worried about getting a gun that's illegal.
I'm reminded repeatedly that the only way - usually - to stop someone with a gun - is another person with a gun.
And that's how all of these have ended. They just didn't get there in time.

Part of the problem is there also needs to be more Dads on duty at home.

Perfect idea. Let’s load up schools with armed agents - gotta get our yutes used to 100% police presence in all aspects of life.

Inability to parent. Parents have been told thousands of times over the last 30 years that any kind of punishment would be cause for child protective services to step in.
No male role model. Kids are growing up without a strong father figure in the household. The guy who's occasionally there doesn't want to see a kid, much less interact with him. The fathers from TV for the last two decades have one and all been bumbling doofuses.
Extremely violent / realistic video games. Kids have seen thousands of simulated murders by the time they make it to high school. When I first learned to hunt and fish the thought of killing something and then gutting and skinning it would make me physically ill, after killing hundreds of animals I can gut a deer while eating a sandwich.
The glorification of the child. In the past, kids were traditionally polite and quiet. The parents were the important part of the family. Now parents are expected to live for their kids. They are in a constant rush to get home to get the kids to soccer, gymnastics, softball…Spending their entire weekends at beauty pageants or basketball tournaments.
Narcissism. Today’s kids worry more about their on line presence than their own privacy or safety. Their obsessiveness with posting their own exploits causes them to want to have more exploits.

I see two possibilities - you make sure there aren't any crazy people that are armed - or you STOP crazy people when they show up.
The first one is, in my opinion, impossible. The second one is easily doable.
If there's another way, I don't know about it.
I don't know how it is we got to this point. We can try to assign blame, but it won't stop the next person.

Say what you like but simple fact is we live in an abortive society which that mindset alone puts no value on human life, no matter how young.
I think the incident they are talking about was the old Great Mills shooting, not the new Texas one.
