Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish have announced they are proud parents to a healthy baby boy.

Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John weighed 7lb 15oz and was 22 inches long at birth.

He was born via a surrogate mother in California on Christmas Day.

'We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,' Sir Elton and Furnish said in a joint statement.

Hopefully, for the same reason most children are born: to bring an unbelieveable kind of love to a home, and to allow the parents to shower the child with affection, and hopes for a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Life is a beautiful thing. Sadly, the intentions of an old man fathering a child is not a noble thing. It is actually very selfish and self centered. To add that a surrogate mother was involved, makes it worst. But what the hey, India is now outsourcing wombs for people to have babies, so no big deal. Just little warped IMO.

I do agree with you, but for the last bit. Elton is 63; he probably doesn't have too many years left. Most of his life has passed and, figuring Elton is around for maybe another decade, his son will barely remember him.

This is not fair to the kid at all. He'll be 10 and Elton will look like his great grandfather. His playmates will be confused as hell. He'll want to play ball and Elton won't be able to. Some therapist is going to make a lot of money off this deal.

She's 24 and will be around the kids entire life. Elton and his pal won't. She can play ball with him, his friends will know she's his mom and not his great grandmother, she will be there for his prom. Elton and his pal won't.
