Last update.. they think the three men were actually taunting the tiger.. when it escaped it hunted them down.. found them in the cafe.. and WHAM...

They think the Tiger escaped because it was being taunted, and then ran them to ground..

If that's the case, good for the tiger!

A shame they shot the tiger.. after it was done killing the third one, it may have just went back to it's cage.

I mean this explains the attacking of the third person before dining on the first two..

Ok, in all seriousness, couldn't they have tranquilized the tiger? Don't you think a zoo would have tranq guns on hand? Are we really surprised it attacked people? It's a freakin tiger!

It's a shame it got out and attacked people, and I'm really sorry for those 3 poeple, but it's not a little kitty.

I bet PETA is thrilled about this and trying to find a way to make a buck off this.

It was shot while mauling someone. Tranquilizers take awhile to work.

Take a beautiful cat, lock it behind bars in Denver, then ship it to SF to mate with some dude she did not choose...she is put in with other tigers, ( and tigers are not like lions, as in being a social cat) and it is near feeding time (usually after the zoo closes the cats are fed)
Not like the wild where she would have a kill to nibble on for a few days..

She sees "food". figures a way to get out and did what she is supposed to do..Go Hunting!!!

Poor tiger, bet she never had any big wild place to run and hunt in her life.

I am not fond of zoos where the animals have no room to be "animals".

Oh. I didn't know it was in the middle of attacking. :ohwell:

Some more of the story is coming out. It had already killed one person and had attacked the other two, and was still attacking one when it was found. This tiger had also mauled one of the zookeepers last year.

The tiger, a female named Tatiana, was the same animal that ripped the flesh off a zookeeper's arm just before Christmas 2006. An investigation of that incident by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health faulted the zoo, which beefed up the pen where big cats are kept.

The first attack happened right outside the Siberian's enclosure — the victim died at the scene. A group of four officers came across his body when they entered the dark zoo grounds, Mannina said.

The second victim was about 300 yards away, in front of the Terrace Cafe. The man was sitting on the ground, blood running from gashes in his head and Tatiana sitting next to him.

The cat attacked the man again, Mannina said. The officers approached the tiger with their handguns. Tatiana moved in their direction and several of the officers fired, killing the animal.

Only then did they see the third victim, who had also been mauled.

Poor guys. One dead and two others severely mauled. I hope the other two survive this. My niece is flying to SF today. I don't think the zoo will be on her sightseeing agenda now.

My Uncle used to take me to the SF Zoo all the time as a kid. The highlight was the feeding of the big cats in the early afternoon.

Ok, let me get 2 jokes out of my system.

I guess tigers don't change their stripes. :jet:

Lots of people get cranky around the holidays.

Ok, I'm done. I feel badly for the victims. I hope the 2 in the hospital survive. :huggy:

The band has a day they have for just for sightseeing and I think going to the zoo was an option. It's a damn shame for this tragedy to happen at all. :frown:

For what it is worth, Half Moon Bay really is pretty.

I'm sure it is but you're talking about a bunch of college students who are only going to have one free day there. Knowing the group, I'm sure they'll find a bunch of other things to see and do. :jameo:
