Wait, I have 30 days from the day it expires to get a new one? There's no mention of that on the MVA website.
According to them...
"Marylanders renew their driver's licenses every five years and you must have a valid Maryland driver's license at all times if you are a resident of Maryland and are driving a vehicle."
I think I'll give the barracks in Leonardtown a call, see if the duty officer can give me an answer either way. Thanks for the replies Rose!
Anyone happen to know what the fine is for driving on an expired license? I just realized mine expired a few day ago and won't be able to get it renewed until Monday. Just trying to figure out what I'm looking at if I do get pulled over. Thanks!
Can you renew it online? If so, you'd be able to print out a confirmation that you paid. Not sure if that's possible with a DL, did it with my registration last month after procrastinating too long.
According to the guy I spoke with at the Leonardtown barracks, there is no grace period. It's a $60 fine for driving with an expired license, no points.
I could have if I had done it 15 days prior to it expiring. Once it's expired, you have to appear in person to get it renewed.
Mine expired on the 21st of April got a new on on the 25th. No fine, no test.![]()

You may have to take the driving test again since you let it expire. I don't know if there is a grace period for that. If this is the case you may have to make an appointment and have someone with a current license drive you there. A friend of mine let hers expire about twelve years ago and when I took her up to Waldorf to get it renewed she failed the written test so we had to go back the next day.![]()
I wonder if your insurance still covers if you get into an accident without a valid license? that would make you an uninsured motorist and we condemned all those people to Hell in a previous thread ....lol
