So you'd arrest someone for driving without a license KNOWING that it's because a lapse on their part their license expired?

Not because they were DUI and were suspended, but you pull somoene over for doing 37 in a 35 and you put the links on them because they forgot to renew last week?

Wow, I guess some cops CAN be real asshoes. Luckily when I got pulled over I had one with more than a 6th grade education and saw my indisrcetion for what it was. A MISTAKE!

Bob, I think if it was an indiscretion on his part then the police may not arrest you, but this guy knows it's expired and he doesn't care. Willing to pay a fine and is very matter of fact about it.

I think that's more the issue than driving with an expired license.

Can you renew it online? If so, you'd be able to print out a confirmation that you paid. Not sure if that's possible with a DL, did it with my registration last month after procrastinating too long.

I don't trust that printable registration anymore. We did that when our truck registration lapsed. We had the printable one that said, "Temporary Registration" AND the receipt that we paid. Some ####### state trooper pulled hubby over and ticketed him. SHe said the paperwork from MVA wasn't acceptable. MVA AND the duty officer at the local state police office said the officer was wrong, but since the ticket was written, we still had to pay it or go to court. Hubby went to court and the judge sided with the cop, but reduced the fine. Hubby called MVA and they told him the judge couldn't do that. It wasn't worth the money and missed work time to appeal it.

So, I'll never again rely on the printable registration because the #######s in the state can't decide the rules.

So the cop who offered the advice earlier was right when he said don't trust the duty officer because theyt are not the ones out on the street each day. I guess MVA and the Duty officer feel they know more than the judge.

Well why would MVA offer a printable temporary registration and tell you to keep it in your vehicle until your stickers get mailed to you? Seems the MVA would know what's acceptable and what's not. Apparently the jerk officer did not know.

And the jerk judge. Maybe MVA made the mistake. I have known MVA to make plenty of mistakes.

Either way they all need to get on the same page so people don't have to pay unnecessary fines.

I agree. You shouldn't have had to receive the ticket, but to blame a cop for doing his job is wrong. If there is nothing in the law that provides you to be able to print a registration (which sounds like the case since the judge issued you a fine) then how should the cop know that you printed it from MVA or made it up on your own.

I am still going to blame the cop. The forms had the receipt and time of payment, and it was an MVA document. Not our fault MVA provides us with that. Hubby is friends with several cops and they all said the same thing, no ticket. I find it hard to believe cops don't realize MVA is letting people print out temporary registrations.

I guess MVA and the Duty officer feel they know more than the judge.

They probably do seeing how the judge is an elected official and is NEVER actually tested on the knowledge of the law, nor is he/ she even required to read the law books or to take continuing ed classes to stay up to date or "certified".

The judge that can put you away for life has less stringent requirements to stay a judge than say a life insurance salesman does to continue to sell life insurance.
