There was a rumor that floated a while back, and proved to be false.
this new one comes from an anylist that says once facebook goes public it will have to be responsible for investor profits, his personal thoughts are that charging could come.
He goes on to "Guess" that they might charge for a premium level of service that would give the user greater security. again, his imagination and has nothing to do with the actual facts.
He also says that users could expect to experience more agressive advertising on the site to increase revenue for Facebook. ( my personal thought is that this is likely.)
Last statement from Facebook is that they will never charge for belonging. They do not however comment on the adverstising end of it.
however, my thoughts are that Facebook has the right to do what they feel is in their best financial interest, if they up the advertising It could bring in more revenue. Their choice.
The user has a choice not to use, but remember, even if you deactivate your account, all of the posts and information are still on the facebook servers, there is no way to totally remove yourself, your pictures, or your information from them.
So, in short. No, they will not be charging.
