Facebook Charging?

I don't want Timeline either. It just seems messy to me. But I still want to use Facebook so I'll just have to deal with it when the time comes.

I hope facebook charges for use. Would be great to see one of the, perhaps the, worst invasion of personal privacy ever bestowed on the public, young or old, to go under.

And so many willingly gave up so much information in the name of......???

To be noticed?

In this day of identity theft, I am surprised that people would provide so much information about themselves to be made public like that. I think the younger folks tend to be more open with their information, but only because they don't have the life experiences to cause them to be more cautious.

However, on a good note, I'm sure that many people have been reunited with each other that had drifted apart during their life (old friends, family, and coworkers). So there is a good side to the information being public.

Invasion of privacy? If people willingly put their stuff out there there is no "invasion." That's like walking around naked then calling anyone who looks a peeping Tom.

Yes and no. Agree that if they don't want the world to know something, don't post it.

However, FaceBook has been very bad about making public information that was supposed to be restricted to private, regardless of the privacy settings someone thinks are selected and used.

That's my primary reason for not having a FaceBook or MySpace or any other social media account. I cannot trust the website to do the right thing.

I know that there is some kind of a button to click somewhere (came up at one point but I ignored it) that would let you try out the timeline format in advance of the change. I deliberately avoided clicking on it. Otherwise, I believe that they are planning on having all users switched over to the new format by the beginning of March. They are probably doing it a segment at a time because mine is still the old concept (or, you clicked the button without realizing what it would do!).

I went to my page an saw this:

"Welcome to Your Timeline — Preview
Right now, only you can see your timeline. This gives you a chance to:
1. Review what's on your timeline now, and add or hide whatever you want.
2. Click Publish Now or wait until your timeline goes live on February 9. Learn more."

Since the timeline interface was brought up here, I'll ask some questions about it that I've been wanting to get some feedback on (i.e. from Facebook users). If I don't get enough feedback, maybe I'll eventually start another thread.

What are people's impressions of the timeline format? If you don't like it, is the forced switch any where close to enough of a negative that you'd consider abandoning your Facebook account? Or use it less?

What about other changes in the past? Have you found over time that you liked them more than you thought you would? And, do you think there's much chance that these kinds of changes (i.e. not regarding privacy, but regarding the interface) will ultimately cause you to stop using Facebook or to use it less? Or, is it too important a part of your life now to give it up based on these kinds of issues?

I'm currently trying to wrap my head around the Facebook model and figure out what kinds of issues will matter going forward - what the risks are, what the prospects are, etc. With the IPO coming soon, I kinda want to have a good framework in which to consider its performance metrics. I appreciate any feedback anyone might have.

I've found many of the changes in the past on FB to be extremely annoying. I had to go through my friends list and place everybody as somebody I like just so I could begin seeing their posts again. Totally annoying. But I like Timeline. I didn't think I would, but I do. It's easy, your page looks neat and it's easy to find things, interests and photos. You can make posts just to specific people (which took me a moment to figure out) and some other cool tricks that I discover everyday.

I am not super tech savvy at all and find timeline the easiest version of FB to operate.
