I don't want Timeline either. It just seems messy to me. But I still want to use Facebook so I'll just have to deal with it when the time comes.
I hope facebook charges for use. Would be great to see one of the, perhaps the, worst invasion of personal privacy ever bestowed on the public, young or old, to go under.
And so many willingly gave up so much information in the name of......???
To be noticed?

Invasion of privacy? If people willingly put their stuff out there there is no "invasion." That's like walking around naked then calling anyone who looks a peeping Tom.
I know that there is some kind of a button to click somewhere (came up at one point but I ignored it) that would let you try out the timeline format in advance of the change. I deliberately avoided clicking on it. Otherwise, I believe that they are planning on having all users switched over to the new format by the beginning of March. They are probably doing it a segment at a time because mine is still the old concept (or, you clicked the button without realizing what it would do!).
Since the timeline interface was brought up here, I'll ask some questions about it that I've been wanting to get some feedback on (i.e. from Facebook users). If I don't get enough feedback, maybe I'll eventually start another thread.
What are people's impressions of the timeline format? If you don't like it, is the forced switch any where close to enough of a negative that you'd consider abandoning your Facebook account? Or use it less?
What about other changes in the past? Have you found over time that you liked them more than you thought you would? And, do you think there's much chance that these kinds of changes (i.e. not regarding privacy, but regarding the interface) will ultimately cause you to stop using Facebook or to use it less? Or, is it too important a part of your life now to give it up based on these kinds of issues?
I'm currently trying to wrap my head around the Facebook model and figure out what kinds of issues will matter going forward - what the risks are, what the prospects are, etc. With the IPO coming soon, I kinda want to have a good framework in which to consider its performance metrics. I appreciate any feedback anyone might have.
Agree with you about the pennies -- must be the copper. I've never liked nickels. I think it's because they are bigger than dimes but are worth less and that never made any sense to me. Size is important...
