Sounds to me like a successful dine and ditch. I've been to Asahi several times and have never had any problems. Their staff are always friendly and the food is always good. I went to the new place in Wildwood the other night (Okada?). It was excellent as well but there are things I like at Asahi better. JMO

I was going to go but for some reason bailed at the last moment...how was it as far as price wise and do they have the yum yum sauce like Asahi?

I can do that. But I have to warn you I have a three year old daughter that goes with me almost everywhere....so would you mind that? If not then it sounds like fun....

Be glad you didn't go Saturday - it was homecoming night. Pricewise they are about the same as Asahi; I had a party of 4 with me and we dropped a benjamin on dinner; that included 2 mixed drinks and 2 beers. They have yum yum sauce there too, but I'd have to say I like Asahi's yum yum sauce better. I like the salad dressing at Asahi better and I also like the "hot dog soup" (that's what my son calls it, because it reminds him of the water in the pan after we've boiled hot dogs...). The chef's were really good; the only one I really like at Asahi's is Mike; I watched 3 different ones at Okada and they were all very interactive with the kids at surrounding tables plus the table I was at.

Umm, wow. That would definately kill an appetite. Yuck. Just the thought of even consuming the hot dog water makes me gag. :lmao:

That's strange...I've never had a problem with service at Asahi, but one of the many reasons that I don't like to go to Monterey is their poor service.

I've gone to both restaurants and have had good service and bad service at both. I go to Asahi, not just for the food but also for the entertainment. I especially enjoy watching the younger children look in awe when the cook does his tricks at the table. :yay:

IT WAS ONLY JUMPING RICE!!!

The management at Asahi Japanese Steak and Seafood House would like to lay to rest a false rumor that has been circulating. Last Friday night, a customer mistook a piece of uncooked rice for a maggot or larvae. When rice is cooked on a teppanyaki table, the rice jumps in the air, and this is precisely what happened. The piece of rice flew onto a piece of steak, and the customer immediately assumed it to be a bug. This could not be the case for several reasons. 1) If this was truly a maggot, it would not retain its white color after being scorched on a grill. 2) The high degree temperature that we cook at would cause a maggot to become unrecognizable. 3) We use high-quality, USDA-approved beef that we inspect before bringing out to the. You can rest assured that there was never a maggot in any of our food.

Before the manager could be brought out to the table, one party at the table got up and left before they could hear our explanation. Of course he was upset and schocked to hear that there was a maggot in our steak, so he immediately tried to remedy the situation by apologizing and offering gift certificates as compensation. As soon as the head chef examined the "maggot," he realized that it was indeed only a piece of rice. After 15 years of cooking experience, he can certainly tell the difference. Even though there was no maggot, the manager still gave gift certificates to the remaining customers, as well as one certificate to give to their friends who had already left. We hoped that they would come back and use the certificates so that we could explain to them what had really happened.

We want to let our loyal customers know the truth about what happened and assure them that this rumor is not true at all. It was all just a misunderstanding. Thank you.
I won't even mention what I've found in the rice there before. Not one eating establishment is 100% perfect, they all have their flaws. I still go back to ASAHI at least once a week with my wife. We just look a little harder lol. They are far better of a place in me and my wife's opinion than that new place OKADA
