Jesus said to them: If you fast, you will put a sin to your charge; and if you pray, you will be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your inner spirits. And if you go into any land and walk about in the regions, if they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you; but what comes out of your mouth, that is what will defile you.
Some sort of disclaimer in your siggy stating that might be more helpful.2ndAmendment said:The Bible is the Truth. That is what I base my life and my posts on.
The Gospel of Thomas is not part of the Bible. You won't find the first part in the Bible, but you will find passages that agree with "And if you go into any land and walk about in the regions, if they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you; but what comes out of your mouth, that is what will defile you."pixiegirl said:14

He speaks to all through the Bible. He speaks to anyone who makes their way right with Him and takes the time to listen; be still before the Lord.Chasey_Lane said:The almight himself knows, and since he speaks directly to you, why don't you ask him yourself.

Dur, because he said so!pixiegirl said:I know it's not part of the Bible. What I don't understand is why we have to give so much authority to ONLY the Bible. The Bible was compiled by man was it not?
Well, from my understanding, the "bible" used to comprise many texts and documents. However, in the early days of the catholic church, the pope (whose name I can't remember) sent out orders that ALL the churchs had to send in all the text that they were using to spread the "Word". Then when all the documents and texts were compiled, this one man sat down with a couple of buddies and picked and choosed what they wanted in the "Bible" and then they burned the remaining documents. Thereby a single man choose the tone and direction of the "bible" which orginially comprised much much more. Luckily, for those who are interested in learning more than just what one man wanted, a lot of the texts survived, albeit some where hidden amongst the dead sea scrolls.pixiegirl said:I know it's not part of the Bible. I believe the Bible is the Truth of God. All other books are human wisdom.pixiegirl said:I know it's not part of the Bible. What I don't understand is why we have to give so much authority to ONLY the Bible. The Bible was compiled by man was it not?
Pope Damsus I was the guy who decided to make the bible what it is.migtig said:Well, from my understanding, the "bible" used to comprise many texts and documents. Where you got that, I have no idea.migtig said:Well, from my understanding, the "bible" used to comprise many texts and documents. From the facts - from history. It's well documented. Research it and you will discover I am telling the truth.2ndAmendment said:Where you got that, I have no idea.
The Catholic Bible is not the canonical Bible. the Catholic Bible contains the Apocrypha; the canonical Bible does not.migtig said:Pope Damsus I was the guy who decided to make the bible what it is.

You and I have had this discussion many times. You don't believe the Bible and I do. We both have free will. Time will tell who is right and who is wrong. To have this discussion again is pointless; the facts have not changed.

Here is a timeline of the Biblical history. It has been posted before, but people forget. http://www.apuritansmind.com/ChristianWalk/BibleTimeline.htmmigtig said:From the facts - from history. It's well documented. Research it and you will discover I am telling the truth.
The Bible. Not the Catholic Bible. The BIBLE end of story - was compiled at one man's direction. The King James version, was edited even further down. Remember, the Catholic Church is the church upon which Peter built.2ndAmendment said:The Catholic Bible is not the canonical Bible. the Catholic Bible contains the Apocrypha; the canonical Bible does not.
I answered it - Pope Damsus Ipixiegirl said:My question has never been answered though. Historically, where did the bible come from? Who compiled it? Who chose what was to be included and what was to be left out.
I answered it in detail before. Just do a search.Midnightrider said:Pix, he obviously can't answer that question without having a conflict with his first sentence here. We all (including the most devote christains) know that the bible was compiled by men, some just can't reconcile that with their blind faith......
Humans are not infallable, so if a human wrote(or compiled) the bible it may not be infallable either
