Opinions are like Arm Pits, everyone has a couple and most of them stink, but here's mine/

When I want Chili I will go to Wendy's , When I want a cheap lunch I will go to McDonalds.

Brown bag your own lunch and save money and yourself from becoming a little pig .

Here's a novel idea, if fast food workers want to earn more money, don't be a high school drop out, get an education, if you have a college degree have one that is worth a damn, .

Then, that way, you can get a job at, say, Goldman/Sachs and, no matter how much you suck or screw up, you not only get paid, you get a bonus even if it needs to be taken right out of the cash available for all the trash people below you.

God bless 'Merica!

So you feel that a dope smoking high school drop out should make as much as a college educated person who's been a productive member of the work force for a good number of years?

Our country is going to hell. I just found out this weekend that one of my brothers spent 200,000 to put their daughter through med school. Doctors in PA are dropping like flies because of Obamacare. It is getting to the point that they cannot make any profit because of the subsidies, and all the other crap. I was told that city bus drivers can make more now than a doctor. Equality and all, y'all! What a crock of pure D bull crap! If something isn't done about this libprog BS, America is done.

If the college educated person was part of a system that was totally bailed out for it's failures, using money that then is not available for main street and distorts the entire economy so that there are less and less jobs for the dumb asses while there are more and more people competing for them, illegal immigrants, out of simple survival instinct, the smart college educated person needs to think about what ought to be done to quell the masses and make sure they see hope and reason to work and try and do better.

The reality is that we rewarded failure at the top. The best and the brightest got bailed out. The dumb asses don't see hope, don't see opportunity and, if computed properly, we're looking at 12% unemployed or so, so, all those people are not helping.

If we say 'too bad, survival of the fittest' then, OK. All well and good. However, in my view, that is a recipe for disaster when enough people stop caring and don't see the opportunities and the optimism for the future that our generation used to see back when we were kids an the only adults at McDonalds were managers. Of course, in our day, when someone on Wall Street screwed up real bad, they ate it. They didn't get a bonus for it.

We have more and more lifelong poor and we have more and more rich, all at the expense of the middle class. Recipe for disaster IF we all agree that the US's strength is that it is, was, a middle class driven nation.

Back in the 80's, I remember there were small restaurants that served meals at a price comparable to McD's. Friendly's was one of them. I remember thinking "why am I sitting in this hard bench eating a burger in a box when for the same price, someone can wait on me and bring me dessert?". So my lunch break ceased to be fast food, because Friendly's or Big Boy's always had a seat for me.

And that's the thing - if fast food places start paying people that kind of wage, ONE of the consequences may well be a movement towards regular restaurants, because why WOULD you sit in squalor after waiting in a long line for "fast food" made by some schmuck when for the same price you could sit down and be waited on and served - and with better food? Because either service will get worse or prices will go up. You can't double the cost of labor and have everything cost the same - you can't afford to hire ten people to make a burger a minute with half of them doing nothing.

Most fast food places have a built-in cost based on how the food is brought to you. It's partly pre-made and slapped together with machines designed to make a couple products. It's designed to churn out modest to low quality food quickly and managed by low-skilled people who add to the cost by their inefficiency. It amazes me that at a local picnic the guy at the grill can churn out burgers and dogs almost as fast.

What you often have now at fast food places is - it's not fast and it's not cheap anymore. You're paying 3-5 bucks for a burger, more than a buck for a quarter's worth of potato and you have to get your own drink.

May as well embrace it and try to make it work. At present, we are socialist but, we have 14% out of work, a flood of illegals willing to work for what is no longer remotely comparable to what it was 30 years ago in buying power and, to make it all worse, we have people like Hank Paulson, who made $500 million at GS, bailing out his pals.

Executives make over 300 times the average worker and nearly 800 times minimum wage. As recent as 1990, that was only about 100:1 to average workers. $5 an hour in 1990, if it grew at the same pace, would be a wage of about $20 an hour today. A young couple, earning, together, $10 an hour, could get started back then. Today, at $15 between them, ain't happening. In the 'golden era' so many right wingers harken back to, the 1950's, executives made about 30:1.

We are WAY out of whack. With nearly 15% unemployed, cost of living, food, energy, so high, the wage strangling effect of uncontrolled immigration, the results speak for themselves.

Uh, well, I love America and still, somehow, see hope for the future.

We have been a socialist nation for some time but, when Reagan signed the Emergency Medical Treatment Act in 1986, it became official. We may as well embrace it and make the best of it because we are NOT going back. There are far too many people who say they oppose socialism but, only oppose socialism for others. They are all too happy with the socialism that works for them.

So, we get honest with ourselves and cut out this privatizing of gain and socializing of loss.

Via what mechanism(s)?

I wrote a paper right before TARP. I was very excited when 'ol Hank walked out every day and told us he was working on it. I was hoping for this grand reset, this fix the leverage and other issues and actually heal the banks by bailing out the troubled asset; people's homes. I will spare you the details but, we could have bailed out the homes instead of the balance sheets and had people's money going to paying bills instead of handing it to the people who know best how to go earn it.

So, mechanism? Just do it.

We are WAY out of whack. With nearly 15% unemployed, cost of living, food, energy, so high, the wage strangling effect of uncontrolled immigration, the results speak for themselves.

I remember way back when I studied the Roman Republic in college, it became apparent that as strongly held as the principles of "res publica" - the public thing - were, it was clear that many aspects of Roman society were going to lead to empire, sooner or later. Traditions such as patronage which led to a kind of sanctioned corruption - stratas of society belonging to the business class, not to mention simple class distinctions - sooner or later it led to fewer and fewer men taking the reigns of power.

But when you look at it - there was nothing in place to keep it from happening. It was all -- "legal". No one really saw it coming, but there was nothing really illegal about it all.

I can easily see how this happens with us, but I can also see a problem that contributes to it. Low skilled workers. Low quality education. When you churn out people in the education system who can barely make change, with the advancement of technology you're going to have a huge disparity of income between the bottom and the top.

You ever see those web pages that show "stuff your great grandpa and grandma could do in their sleep - but you're clueless about"? I don't know about you, but my great grandparents worked in a way that I couldn't do now. I still see the tree-stump wall they left on their farm a century ago, because they converted a dozen acres to farmland by pulling out large trees with oxen. I'm convinced a great deal of income disparity occurs because we have so very many people who just don't have any skills at all lining up for jobs.

You used to understand how money worked - what happened? I don't necessarily agree with the bailouts because I tend toward the "burn it down and start over" method of recovery, but I certainly understand why Bush did it.

There were a large number of people who would have lost income had the financial institutions not been bailed out. Not just Wall Street and banking types and investors themselves, but think of the money they hemorrhage just supporting their lifestyle. You used to understand that rich people didn't tuck their cash into the mattress; that they spent it and spread it around. From household employees to car dealerships to travel agencies to real estate agents.... Contrary to what the idiot Left says, trickle down works. Trickle down is the *way* it works; the way it's *always* worked.

Fast food workers are towards the bottom of the downline. They are low (sometimes zero) skilled and they are largely uneducated - these people aren't even good enough or smart enough to work in a real restaurant. If they're spending years and years working fast food, they gave up the American dream a long time ago and perhaps never had it in the first place. I don't think they should be rewarded for that. Fast food is supposed to be for young people and second income, not a career position.

Huh? Nobody gives you skills, you acquire them yourself. These people have chosen to be serfs. They have chosen to be uneducated and lazy, they have chosen to have bad habits, and they have chosen to be poor. There are a million opportunities to acquire skills in this country and I am living proof of that, as are any number of other people.
