Field trip tattoo

My kiddo got her first henna tattoo when she was 5 so I don't think their are any restrictions.

Right now she has a sticker/temp tat on her lower back.

Why would you let her have one on her lower back? So she can lift up her shirt to show everyone? Do you think it's cool for her to have it there?

When my kid got a henna tat I don't remember their being colors to choose from so I looked it up since you mentioned RED lips and this is what I found:

Color henna lasts 1-3 days. Natural henna lasts 1-3 weeks.

Standard natural henna can leave a henna tattoo stain in a range of colors including orange brown, coffee brown, or deep red brown depending on your body chemistry, the henna mix, where you put it on your body, and how long the moist henna stays in contact with your skin. A standard henna design will last from 1-3 weeks. Standard henna is available in powder or pre-mixed paste.

Colored henna is very different from regular henna. It does not come in powder form, only pre-mixed paste. color henna contains a small amount of henna along with plant extracts to produce color without any harmful chemicals. Color henna is a surface stain and does not penetrate deeply into the skin like standard henna (similar to the stain blueberries might leave on your fingers). Color henna lasts from 1-3 days and can be scrubbed off if needed using soap and water (some colors wash off easier than others). NEVER use any color henna that contains chemicals.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is but I bet the one she has now doesn't say "Naughty Girl" and she probably didn't get it at school...

She is almost 7 and no it doesn't say that, but she did get the tat from school.

Why not? That's what the tat was made for. To go on her lower back. I don't see anything wrong with it.

See... this thread is the perfect example as to why I personally wouldn't hold the chaperone responsible for not having the same read on the moral compass as I do. Where is the line? Is it at temporary tattoo? Henna vs. plastic? Placement? Content of tattoo? Cost? A combination of any of the above?

In my opinion, the fact that the 10 year old knew she could go home with this tat and not expect a problem says a lot about her parents parenting style and that is their choice. We don't get to define the moral compass of others in America.

Meaning that you shouldn't care about other people's children. I disagree.

Seriously why does it matter? If a kid is being beaten, or is being starved or something like that then yes others should care. But it's a freaking temp tat that will go away in a couple days. Big deal.

But it's not like he let the girl do something that would endanger her.

It doesn't matter. Even a fake tattoo like that on a young girl looks trashy and sends a skeezy message. That wasn't the chaperone's call to make to allow it and when in doubt with someone else's child, err on the side of caution.

I have not seen the tattoo personally. I'm describing the tattoo as my children described it to me - it said Naughty Girl with a kiss, they told me the kiss was red. Another parent told me that it was a henna tat.

And I do hold the chaperone responsible because he didn't know if the parents would or wouldn't object. In situations like that you error on the side of caution and say No tat on my watch, if your parents will allow you to get it, then they can bring you back to get it.

I would not let my 10 yr old daughter get a tat like that, but I also would hope I'd have taught her what's appropriate for kids her age, and that includes not getting skanky tats. :yay:

Well, I'm sure you will have extraordinarily mature children who will never do anything without your permission and would never dream of disobeying you and trying to get away with something.

I agree that it looks trashy and sends a skeezy message, but the 10 year old should know better. Obviously her parents had never had discussions about what's appropriate for 10 year old girls. My mother would never let me wear anything inappropriate, and I would have known better than to get that tattoo.

What if the child wanted to buy something else? Should the chaperone be able to tell the child what she can and can't spend her money on? Maybe the chaperone didn't have a phone to call the girl's parents. Maybe the girl told the chaperone her parents wouldn't care. Obviously the chaperone thought it was acceptable because he let his own daughter get one. Different parents allow different things. No harm was done, so I don't think it's a big deal. If her parents were unhappy, they can have a talk with her about it and remove it. :yay:

...My husband just went on a field trip and he bought all the kids in his group popcorn and sodas. I told him that probably wasn't the best thing to do since some children are not allowed to drink soda. Or they could have had an allergy.

But you're okay with the Naughty Girl tramp stamp on the 10 year old

I don't mean to seem like I'm attacking you, your parenting or anything, so I apologize if you feel as thought I am. I just don't understand how someone would think it's okay for a 7 year old to have a lower back tattoo (fake of course) knowing she'll be lifting her shirt to show everyone. Wow...think about it, she'll probably be asking for thongs soon ("for a dance mom, geesh").

Good luck mom :yay:

:eyebrow:

I see now why you would be ok with this. A seven year old with a tattoo in ANY provocative area is just ridiculous and it is sad that you are ok with it.

My view exactly. No harm was done, so I don't see a reason to make a big enough deal about it to bring up issue with the school.

 <--- You can say that again. WTF is the big deal? You thought it was being nosey that I wanted to report a parent letting their infant child ride unrestrained in a car, yet you think it's deplorable that this parent would let a child get a henna tattoo?

If my children did get a tattoo like this, I would have a talk with them about WHY it's not appropriate so they KNOW not to do it again.
