Ok, I received a phone call from GMHS. The nurse informed me that my 10th grader had been hit and knocked to the floor in the locker room. She is ok and has a small bump on her head. ? is should I pursue action against the other student above what the administration will do I.E. filing an assult charge?

Did your child try to defend herself?

You need to talk to your kid about it, first. Get her side and what she thinks should be done. She's old enough to contribute to you decision.

I agree with this. I'd discuss w/the child before taking major action. Also want to know exactly how the high school planned to discipline the offender - that could play a big part in how I'd react.

I thought the schools did this fairly automatic now.. A hits B.. school calls Poleeze to come and arrest A..

If anything I would stop by the office to see what IS being done, and that isn't just being blown off.

I have already spoken with her, She did not defend herself this time. She has in the past and has been suspended for it. It is a no win situation. Involving another level will only single her out for future situations. Personally I would have beat the crap out of the kid and let her be suspended. The schools though are now expelling these kids so depending on the severity of the fight who only knows what could happen.

My daughter told the school she wanted to prosecute. It is her choice ultimately. The deputy has not been located at this time.

Yes. People need to learn that this is NOT how we act, and obviously this kid's parents never taught them that. All the school will do is give them a suspension, which the kid won't care about because they'll enjoy a few days off.

Having her fight back is one solution, but then she risks a suspension and possible assault charge as well. And she has more to lose because she probably cares if she gets in trouble - this other kid doesn't.

Well, given that this has happened before, and your daughter reacted as the school had indicated she should (sit and take it) then the offender should at least be suspended. If the school doesn't so that, raise a holy stink. If this kid is a repeat offender and hasn't learned anything, maybe you need to go further.

Personally, I would have the other child arrested for assault. Obviously, this “other child” needs a further lesson in consequences for your actions.

I don't in any way think violence is the way but school is tough. My oldest is in high school so I do believe these kids should know better. Elementary and middle school is a bit different as I have two in ES that I constantly have to tell them to stop pinching and poking one another. It's not like the days when I was in school and if you got in a fight they called your parents and you maybe got a day of ISS.

IMO...I say persue action, especially if your daughter wants too. These little hood rats need to be taught a lesson. If these kids don't want to straighten up on their own, then maybe the law can.

Then run with it. The same thing happened to my daughter over a year ago. The culprit was put on probation for 3 months, had to attend "anger management" classes and had to be indoors by a certain hour and had a temporary restraining order againt her.

At least this way the kids who don't have parents teaching them right from wrong still have an opportunity to learn how to behave.

I agree with that to a degree. It is just hard to know the whole story. For example when my daughter gets to lipping off at me and rollin her eyes I can't lie I want to clean her clock. I can't and would not do that. So to this day I put her in the corner. Forget getting to hide out in her room. So if she had words with this other kid and came across the way she does with me can I really blame the other child for not having the discipline to walk away? I am trying to look at the action that may have caused the reaction. Lord knows she is going to tell me she did nothing wrong and I certainly hope that is the case.

If I hit everyone who pissed me off, I'd be behind bars for the rest of my life. Violence is not acceptable, especially if the kids are going to get into trouble for defending themselves.
