I'm looking to buy some firewood for next season, what is the going rate around here per cord? Where can I go to get it also?

You're a week short. I just cut down some trees in my backyard.
But after that last storm there may be some folks left who still haven't cleaned up all their trees. If you cut your own, check around the Town Creek area. They took the most damage around here as far as trees coming down. If you're just looking to buy a cord? Last year I think they were getting about $150 a cord. I used to cut my own. About 3 cord a year. Quit doing that and went to a pellet stove. Best move I ever made.Originally posted by Chasey_Lane

You are correct, it takes electricity to run the blower and to feed the pellets, but I have a generator. I can run the pellet stove, refer, freezer, lights and a microwave. Only thing I've got to do is get a hookup where I can run everything from the fuse box so I can run my deep well pump.Originally posted by Tonio
Does your stove work without electricity? We got rid of our aging wood stove. We're trying to decide whether its replacement should run on propane, pellets or corn. But I understand that most pellet stoves and corn stoves use electricity to supply the fuel to the burners. That wouldn't help if we lose electricity during an ice storm.

You don't want to burn pine anyway, too much creasote buildup in the flue. I used to mix some pine in with the hardwood, but there's enough hardwood around here that you don't have to burn pine. That's one of the reasons I stopped burning wood because of the burnt smell and the mess in the house. Pellet stoves cost around $2000, but are well worth it. Bought a pallet of pellets for around $180 and that'll heat my house for quite awhile.Originally posted by Baywatchv8
I will come and get and or cut wood but I am looking for hardwood due to my wife's alergies. Some types of pine cause her difficulties breathing.

I have a dead what-i-think-is-elm tree that needs to be brought down. If you have someone insured bring it down, you can have the wood (I once had it estimated at $150). It's leaning away from the house, so it shouldn't be difficult.
I heard that pellet stoves are god but I just bought my house in the Ranch and it already has a big stove in the basement. Maybe later I will look for a pellet stove.Originally posted by Vince

That is cheap to have someone that is licensed and bonded to come in and remove your tree. Have seen them charge up to $500 per tree if it's a SOB to take down. With houses all over the place, they have to use a bucket truck and take it down piece by piece instead of just dropping the whole tree.Originally posted by tys_mommy
You want pay $150 to remove YOUR tree????

I know, hubby just finished a $2,000 tree last night but the point I was making is that he wanted someone else to pay for his problem.
