Ford or Chevy?

BCP, I don't understand that. I have had nothing but Dodge in my driveway.

:yeahthat:

Since 1988, I've had at least 1 Dodge truck in my driveway....The first one(a Ram 100, I think) is still running....my ex gave it away about 3 years ago to a neighbor and it had over 200k miles on it without a re-build....the guy and/or his son are still driving it

It's a 1500 with a big one....He got that truck so he could haul his bike trailer, his g/f and all the kids around....he even got the chip to give it more hauling power....didn't work

Except for the g/f and kids, I thought you might have been talking about mine..... I have the GMC 1500 w/ 4.8 litre motor. I love the truck, never given me a bit of trouble, very comfortable ride, decent gas mileage (21 on the highway). I even got a re-programmer to program the computer for more power when pulling the bike trailer! It did work to some extent, but the 4.8 is way underpowered, even with the cold draft intake and chip mods.

Im dumping my dodges due to poor performance and quality.
I will never buy another chrysler product as long as I live. Im not even sure if I want them in my driveway.

When the guy from the dealership calls me, I hang up on him.

I just can not speak poorly enough about the inferior products that chrysler puts out.

I am not the only one who thinks so. Ask PT and a handfull of others about Dodge.

Got a good neighbor of mine who has got a '97 Dodge 4x4, 318, 5-speed, with close 300k on it........Only 3 sets of plugs..........Once in a lifetime vehicle.

6.0 Gasser? Yep - it has plenty of power...

Towing (about 7500 - 8000 lbs.) I get about 10 MPG... around town it gets 12 - 13 MPG... on a trip, about 16 MPG (all highway)... :yikes:

That 4.10 rear is a gas sucker...

I get about 18 highway when not towing and about 14 when pulling the camper.

But at $3.40 + a gallon I wish it was better than that. I am thinking about putting in a Banks system.

BCP, I don't understand that. I have had nothing but Dodge in my driveway. I have only traded in for reasons that were like, the first car was a 98 Dodge Stratus ES and it was sa wonderful car, not one problem out of it, had to trade it 2 yrs. after I got it because I had my 3rd child and it was too small. So I bought a 2000 Dodge Caravan. Great little van, had it for almost 7 yrs. but wanted one of the new Chargers and saw that it was big enough for my family so I traded for the 2006 Dodge Charger R/T. Again, have had this car now for 2 yrs. and am going to have this car for a very long time because it's hubby's turn for a new truck, no problems at all out of this car. What on earth did you buy that you hate so much?

2500 Conversion van
head gasket 4 times before 60 k.
Front A/C unit just over 60 k
trans started acting up at 65 so I traded it too.

01 Ram Quad Cab.
15k front wheel bearing goes bad and locks up front weel at 60 mph.
25k, window motor goes out
just past 60k, A/C unit goes out
70k power steering unit.

86 Full Size Bronco.
296k power steering unit
323k sold the rusted thing, new owner started it and drove it up on to his trailer.

Sorry to hear that. I feel the same about chevrolet as you do chrysler.

I have always been a ford fan, and still stand behind my 460 powered F-250, which outruns and outpulls my brothers 06 powerstroke. The only reason I say dodge for a full size is the cummins and their manual trans, however they do make me gag at the sight of them. But until Ford goes with a CAT or Cummins Im gonna stick with dodge.

well if it makes you feel any better, I still think dodge is the best looking truck on the road out of the three.

and I also know that the 460 will outpull the powerstroke, but the economy is just a bit different between the two.
as of right now the heaviest thing I tow is around 7500 lbs, but we are looking at a 32ft trailer that is just a bit more than that.

My guess is driver error, ive had 4 chevy vehicles 2 had over 250k miles and still ran when i sold them, i have and s-10 blazer now with 160k still runs smooth, no tranny slipage, no problems. And my current vehicle is a 04 trailblazer, runs perfect no problems, and i can tow 6500lbs with a little 4.2l engine.

As for ford i like the trucks, other than that they dont offer anything i would buy, not to mention my mom has had 3 fords, and my grandfather has had 5. Both of them have had at least 2 catch on fire, and my moms last one the tranny went.

Just look for an old army hummer with the diesel you could drive through a lake towing a house.

obviously my vote goes for GM, and like BCP my family has had problems with dodge.

Driver error..........you are too funny!

I had a Dodge COnversion van a few years ago.. had it 18 months and got rid of it.

BRAND new, heading down the highway to the mall in NH.. went to hit the brakes to slow down the pedal went all the way to the floor NO brakes!! I pumped the pedal about ten times and started working the parking brake to get slowed down, and limped to the nearest repair shop.. got done repairing the brakes and the parking brake had froze up. From that day forward I could NEVER use the parking brake as it would never release, had that fixed three or four times with no resolution.. and the damn thing ATE brakes. Every 12 - 15000 miles I had to have them replaced as well as the rotors..

First service they brought out the fill plug from the rear differential COVERED with metal shavings..

On top of that the damn 318 SUCKED gas..

OH, and I paid an extra $1200 or so for the "heavy duty suspension" and all it got me was heavy duty shocks..

Haven't owned since, nor will I ever again own, a Dodge or Chrysler..

OH, and forgot about the GOV Neon I had.. brakes NEVER worked on that car until you had it on the road for 15 minutes.. Imagine my surprise as I was driving off the side of the mountain in PA when I went for the brakes at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill and the car kept goin!! I rolled through the intersection, and the car didn't stop for another 150 - 200 feet on the other side of the intersection.. I was grabbing e-brake.. I was pumping the pedal. NOTHING.. oh.. and more than once I'd take a turn and my hand would get wedged on the steering wheel, between my leg and the door.. .. and just kept turning.. ANd ANY Dodge I've been in with more than 15000 miles sounds like it's shaking itself to death..

How about one of the big internationals or a Kodiak, it will pull a 32ft trailer, has room for the whole family, and you'd be the cool kid on the block.

I love my '03 F250 6.0 litre powerstroke. Considered getting rid of it earlier in the year but think I'll be sorry when I do. No real problems as of yet. 100,000 miles on it now. still gettiing close to 18mpg hwy and 14 around town so even though the diesel prices are higher, my gas mileage is much better than the same vehicle with a gas motor.

I Like the new chevy's better than the new fords. I think they've got a better handle on the new emissions req's and so far, they haven't produced any flame throwers AND they are SUPER super quiet. I was HIGHLY impressed with the new Chevy that I test drove a while back.

And that's the only thing I don't like about the new diesels, is the new emmissions requirements, and the added maintenance that it brings to the diesels. Ash cans that have to be emptied periodically, emissions inspections... :ohwell:

looked at the fords and chevy's tonight.
really like a 3500 that they had on the lot.

I still think the PowerStroke (new engine) is still a Ford in-house engine... there was a problem with IH getting involved with the warranty work with Ford or vice-versa.

Dodge/Cummins does successfully work together on warranty issues :yay: not sure of why Ford/IH could.

The 6.0 was made by IH with a Ford designed fuel system. The problem being that neither company wants to take responsibilty for the problems that arose with it.

The 6.4 is still made by IH.

Last I checked, Ford was the first company to accept the emissions requirements that were federally mandated. Gm and Chrysler were still paying the fines to grant them exemption for a couple of more years.

did the test drive thing with the ford and chevy this morning.
ride was better in the ford
chevy was not as noisey
I did like the interior of the ford better once you got in, but it sat up a bit higher and was a pain to get in and out of for the youngun.

on the mpg indicator on the trucks, the ride down rt 4 and back to the dealer showed an average of 13 mpg on the ford 250, and 18 on the chevy.
both trucks had basically the same options as each other so no real difference there.
sticker on the ford as tested, 51,000 on the chevy was 42,000
incentives on the chevy would bring it down to the mid to high 30s.

Im thinking that I will be buying the chevy 2500 with the diesel.

will pay off wifes car next week first, then go down and get the truck.
dont want two car payments.
