did the test drive thing with the ford and chevy this morning.
ride was better in the ford
chevy was not as noisey
I did like the interior of the ford better once you got in, but it sat up a bit higher and was a pain to get in and out of for the youngun.

on the mpg indicator on the trucks, the ride down rt 4 and back to the dealer showed an average of 13 mpg on the ford 250, and 18 on the chevy.
both trucks had basically the same options as each other so no real difference there.
sticker on the ford as tested, 51,000 on the chevy was 42,000
incentives on the chevy would bring it down to the mid to high 30s.

Im thinking that I will be buying the chevy 2500 with the diesel.

will pay off wifes car next week first, then go down and get the truck.
dont want two car payments.

What color ya gettin'................:howdy:

stopped at another dealer just for the heck of it a little bit ago, saw an 06 with 30k on it. 3500 duel. Full loaded with the leather, seat warmers, DVD in the ceiling type thing, sun roof, 4X4 etc...
ran it down rt 50 for a bit and it actually hit 21 mpg driving it easy at 60 ~ 65 mph.
Bigger than I wanted and than I need, but Im going back in on Monday to talk at him and see how low I can get him to go, he is looking for 35,900 for it.

anyone that knows these trucks and can tell me if that is a fairly good price for it?
the thing is clean, no dents or scratches, and the interior shows like new.

I get about 18 highway when not towing and about 14 when pulling the camper.

But at $3.40 + a gallon I wish it was better than that. I am thinking about putting in a Banks system.

That is where I was in a quandary... I just don't use the truck enough to justify the extra cost of the diesel.

My boss has the Banks System in his Dodge Cummins 3500 Dually and loves it - it has a boat load of power and it boosted his economy.

Im going chevy.
never would I consider yota or nissan, Im neither gay or insane.
I actually like the ford better for its interior, but that was not enough to over look the mileage problem with the ford.

If the Japanese and German companies bring their diesels over, you'd do well to buy one.

I think Mercedes developed a new cleaner more efficient diesel, and released the design to other companies to use.. 2009 will see a bunch of new diesels being offered, from Merc, VW, Audi BMW.. I think BMW is already offereing the new diesel in the 330d in Europe.

BUT I don't know of any Toyota or Nissan trucks offered with a diesel.

Ive had a few nissans, I beat on those trucks like I hated them, and still never had any real problems. One of them has gone around 300,000 now with only minor repairs. I would buy a Titan over any of the big 3's 1/2 ton trucks anyday, and would love to see them build a 3/4-1 ton w/ a deisel.

Let us know what kinda mileage that chevy really gets. The display in my dodge says its getting around 21, but its really between 15-17.

At least on the new Fords, you can't go with what the MPG says on the puter. It takes a bit for them to break-in and the MPG and power output gets considerably better.

Poke around over at Ford Truck Accessories Products Parts Articles Videos Forums for more info.

As for the pricing of the '06 Chevy's, take a look at Kbb.com for the '06, and '05 to get a good idea of what the depreciation will be. Keep in mind that in August, that '06 will be 3 years old in the banks eyes.

You can't beat the Duramax (Isuzu commercial truck engine) and Allison transmission in the Chevy. Gumbo has one. Ask him for his opinion.

The 06 used with low miles seems to be the best bet. to get the exact same thing in an 07 or 08 new would cost me 57,000 if I was to get the exact same options on it.

Nice truck! Anytime you can find a good used truck, it's a better deal than buying new. Mine was two years old and had 20,000 miles on it when I bought it. And I got it for $20k less than the same truck would have cost me new. Almost 3 years later it has nearly 100,000 miles on it, and blue book is still $20k.

Plus, the markup on the new Chevy's is a but higher to help pay for the 100,000 mile warranties across the board. I just never liked the interiors of the Chevy's until the '08's. Can't go wrong with the durmax powerplant though.
