:yeahthat: thats what I was trying to say, but your words seemed to flow better.

Must admit, I almost ran to my car to make sure I had the right version of "blinker fluid" in the car.

Hilarious :lmao:

That little battery in the remote unlocker dohickey went dead and I couldn't open my doors. It really sucked because I had to walk down to the store and try to get the right battery for the remote so I could get into my truck. Once I found the correct battery it was a HUGE PITA to get the key off the keyring so I could change the batt........nevermind/:ohwell:

Seriously, it sounds like more than just a fuse. The puff of smoke is the tell tale sign that something besides a fuse went. You may have a blown fuse, but a fuse that blows will not produce smoke. Whatever produced the smoke would have blown the fuse.

I would suspect that a component in the radio blew. That would have caused the fuse to blow. The radio and the power locks are probably on the same electircal circuit and when the the fuse went, the locks stopped working. Replacing the fuse may or may not fix the problem. My guess is not.

I had a similar problem, I locked the keys in my convertible and it started to rain. By the time my wife got to me with the spare key the whole frickin car was soaking wet. It ruined the leather seats, Boy was I pissed she took so long to get there. To this day I still blame her.

A .22 long rifle cartridge works in place of a fuse.

This is no BS. A friend of mine was a service writer for <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Toyota or Honda, I forget. Anyway this guy calls up and says his car won’t start. So they tow it to the shop and pop the hood. WOW, it was beautiful and shinny. The Tard decided to MOD it himself and cover EVERY wire, hose, etc. with aluminum foil. It rained, water splashed up……end of story. Then the Tard gets pissed because he had to pay thousands of dollars because warranty does not cover stupidity.

You could place a .22 cal case (not cartridge - don't want any live rounds going off because of heat - electricity does cause heat) or other metal object or aluminum foil or the like between the fuse contacts, but that would not be a good choice. The fuse blew for a reason (something caused smoke). If the fuse socket is just shorted or a higher capacity fuse inserted, you will probably get more smoke and then it will be a matter of whether the foil or object used to short the fuse terminals melts before the wiring harness turns into a gigantic toaster and possibly ignites and burns up your car.

Sounds like the blinker fluid leaked into the fuse box and blew a few fuses. Be sure when you get the blinker fluid to replace what leaked out they don’t rip you off for the high dollar premium fluid, that high dollar fluid is for cars with a horse power or 87,000 or higher.

SockGirl,

So did the car get fixed so you can lock it now? If not, can I have your license plate number and make/model and year of your car to do some research? I will also need your home address because some autostores only carry certain parts and I would like to find the one closest to you. VIN number might also be helpful.
