I get that, but there is a difference between good business and raising the price of an item multiple times in the course of a day or two. Not justified.

If your cost keeps going up with a business like the fuel business the retailers on most cases don't pay for the fuel along with other commodities until its sold.
With whats happening on the east coast a retailers profit margin can easily be erased if the if the retail price is not increased when they get a increase.

I on occasion sell steel at a retail price to folks around town, would you expect me to sell it for what I paid say two years ago wholesale or todays retail price?

No, but that's not the same thing. We're not talking about 2 year old stock. This is a commodity that turns over in days.

One of my employees said his wife saw someone in Ridge yesterday putting gas in a trash can while she was waiting in line for gas. Please tell me it didn't have True Value written across it. I am not responsible once the trash can walks out of my store with you!

A business has to make a profit, if not it will shortly close like the restaurants in the last year...
Businesses don't survive on just making employee wages.
