Every account I have read of someone encountering an angel where they were supposed to know that they were being given a message from God, they knew it was an angel. Matthew didn't say that a ghost appeared to Joseph; he did say an angel of the Lord appeared to him.

Remember, satan is a former angel as are the fallen angels that serve satan. They are powerful. Why would anyone want to open their life to a power that is extremely powerful that they did not know was absolutely Good.

Only One is truly good, our Father who is in heaven. Read that somewhere before. Oh yeah (he said tongue in cheek) in the Bible.

I have a question. Back when Jospeh saw the "angel" - if the word Ghost was non extistant in the language at the time..... and religion was what dictated law... from todays standards....could it be preceived that an "angel" could have been a "ghost"? How is one to really know if a ghost was preceived as an angel back in the day?

Ok...some may think that for a ghost to exist that the spirit had to come from a living body that died....and if that was/is the case then how do we explain demonic spirits? Perhaps this is a seperate concersation....

Angels are created beings just as we are. One of the things that made Lucifer angry is that humans were created to be above the angels. Satan and one third of the angels rebelled against God. There are evil spirits or demons. Jesus said so, so I believe so. He cast demons out of many people according to the Gospels. The Bible says that we interact with angels in our daily lives. (Heb 13:2) If the Bible says it is true, I believe it is true. I am pretty sure the Greek concept for ghost did exist and was seperate from the concept for angel.

The modern Greek for angel is: άγγελος

The modern Greek for ghost is: φάντασμα

They don't look the same to me.

If it is an abomination to contact the deceased.......the i guess you should stop trying to talk to JESUS

None of it's real so who cares. I'm sure God doesn't care if you play D&D so why would he really care if you play at talking with the dead. I look at it as an archaic law from the times when people really thought that the dead came back to life and that you can contact them.

Bustin, both you and sup will be unpleasantly surprised at sometime in the not too distant future if you continue in your present belief or lack thereof. After all, 50 - 100 years is not too distant. You should both have passed from this life by then. Hope you get turned around before your last day of this life.

It doesn't bother me. I'm a good person who does good things. If there is something after this, I shouldn't be too off the mark.

I love surprises!
As I understand Christianity, an unbeliever that dies will suffer from
1. Eternal seperation from God
2. In hell there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

1.1. I'm currently seperated from God and don't really lose any sleep over it. I would be much more happier if we could do away with the notion of him all together, so eternal separation from God doesn't sound to bad to me.
2.1. Everyone enjoys a good cry, so the only downfall is the whole gnashing of teeth thing. I've been bit before and it didn't feel great, but I'm willing to take that risk.

All kidding aside, I know what the Bible says and if Christianity is correct, which I seriously doubt, then I'll be held accountable. If the thousands of other religions are correct, which I also doubt, then you've probably ticked off more than a few other Gods.

Carl Sagan said it best, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence", (which I find lacking in this case)

I read tarot and tea leaves, I use a spirit board to contact the dearly departed, I do spells and I conform the energy around me to my will. I've hunted ghosts and seen many. While my spirituality is a seperate thing from my craft, I don't believe in your God or that Jesus was the son of your God. While that's fine for you, I know I don't have to to have a wonderful afterlife. I am a good person. I have a good heart. And best of all...I respect people of all beliefs, I never preach to them, put them down for it, or tell them they are wrong or damned. I am not judgemental or close minded. I understand that everyone has their own path and whatever works for you is what is right for you. I wish with all my heart that everyone did.
