I know it is not Halloween, but this is a topic that interests me.
Do you believe in ghosts or not? Why? Share your experiences! I have great orb photos from Sotterly Plantation and elsewhere.

I believe in ghosts 100%. My brother and I had a picture of one from when we were little, but over the many moves we made growing up, it got lost. (crazy story)

When I lived in Germany with my parents, we lived in old SS housing. That place was haunted to the Nth degree. It was the kind of house that when you walked in, you just felt uncomfortable. And it wasn't just because I was young... to this day my family still talks about that house. It wasn't until I was much older that my parents finally admitted that they hated the house too.

Are there any haunted areas in SOMD??

Lilly,

Point Look Out is haunted! I go up there at night, to do night fishing! Little creepy!

sxy,
What's the Queen Mary? And what's her story?

The R.M.S. Queen Mary first launched, September 26, 1934. She's had approximately 1001 transatlantic crossings in her career and served for commercial purposes during WWII.

Some believe that she is haunted, and sightings have been seen and voices have been heard. The poolroom (don't remember which deck it's on) is NEVER completely dry. The workers drain her EVERY nite, and shortly after you'll find about 2 inches of water in the pool.

The Mary was drydocked in 1966 and can be found in Long Beach. She has been made a hotel and museum attraction. You can also enjoy a meal on her. :D

I know, I know. I really want to visit her and have lunch in the dining hall. She's a beautiful ship! I'm just not too fond of traveling to Long Beach. :duh:

Sxy,

Wasn't she used as a troop transport during WWII?

Has anyone heard those stories about St. Andrews Church Road - the woman who jumps into the street at night. Supposedly this happens near a bridge but I can't find a bridge on this road!! I heard a similar story growing up but it was on Indian Bridge Road about a woman walking to meet her husband who was on his way home from the old mill - Does anybody know anything else about this?

I have heard about the Women's Institute in Ellicot City. (It's on the link Sxy gave us). Anyone up for a group outing to go check some of these places out?

Pixie,

I'd be up for it however, I'd probably cry like a baby and need someone to hold my hand. :baby: I don't enjoy walking in my backyard at nite. I've got nothing but woods behind me and who knows what's back there.

The Scatman Crothers character in The Shining describes one interesting explanation for "hauntings". Given the number of soldiers that died at the prisoner-of-war camp at Point Lookout, that would make sense to me.

Years ago a group of psychics did some audio tapings in the Point Lookout lighthouse. They heard nothing during the taping. But when they played back the tapes...!

Sxy, You know I will hold your hand and take care of you.

I'll start looking around and see if I can find an interesting place. Maybe we can go in a few weeks when it starts getting warmer at night. Pixies don't like the cold....:wah: I've also heard of an insain assylum in Baltimore. Anyone else heard of it?

To make a long story short, in the book she states that ghosts are real. They are essentially spirits who turned away from the "light" when they died and simply don't know or accept the fact that they are dead. She says that eventually all ghosts will accept the light and finish their journey home.

Actually, these are poltergeists (dibuk in Yiddish, and other names in other languages that I can't think of at the moment). They're an unusual type of ghost. This is often the result if the person had a painful passing, which tends to kind of hold the person here. Other times the person just doesn't realize they've passed on, or are unwilling to accept it.

Your run of the mill ghost, on the other hand, is in the process of moving on. Many cultures believe that we stay on earth for 1 month before moving on.

My mother never believed in ghosts until she saw her mother's a couple of weeks after she passed on. She said it was just like in the movies, with her kind of floating there, translucent. Personally, I've not seen a ghost (spirits are another story), but with all the healing work I've done over the years, I'm not in any doubt about them.
