I was wondering what bluetooth types work well for folks that end up outside a lot? Needs to work with a Motorola Android phone.

The blue one works best. The orange one is pretty good but can get scratchy. Definitely stay away form red.

Go to Amazon, search for bluetooth headset, and sort by average customer review. There's your answer.

Well, wait a minute. It's called 'blue tooth' for a reason. Only the blue ones will work. The orange and red ones are for different systems.

I was hoping to get the comments of some of the So.MD folks who spend a lot of time outdoors using their bluetooth, however, I will also check Amazon as you suggested.

Kidding aside, that really is your best answer. There are so many variants of headsets that everyone here will have a different answer. Best to read the online reviews, pick one, then get more reviews on that model.

I don't use one. Hate them.

How does one determine which bluetooth devices work with which phones? The bluetooth description saying it works with MOST phones obviously isn't helpful.

Working outside one tends to sweat, so the bluetooth has to be moisture resistant. The Motorola H500/700's are not.

You can be pretty sure any of them will work with any Android phone. I have used three or four, and never had a problem. Have had three different headsets for my phone, and have used the cars bluetooth, and the hands-free addon module we put in the wifes old 99 Blazer. And have used two different headsets for the PS3 also.

So dont sweat compatibility, as long as you stay with the big names like Jabra, or any of the phone makers. Since you mention being outside, I assume you mean working. So for you, ambient noise control and a solid grip on your ear are the two things you need the most, I think. So you want a model with a book, that sort of covers the ear, and one that wraps around your ear so it stays put.

I have had one of these for a while, and like it. Only use it on road trips, or on the motorcycle.

Unless you sweat buckets I am pretty sure any of them would resist sweat. A downpour or scuba, not so much

Well I killed 2 already but it WAS very hot outside.

I didn't get a chance to kill the Plantronics, because it disappeared.

By day I work in an office, but after that I'm outside a lot due to the critters and the farm work.

I got a Samsung headset for my son to use with his PS3 for $2 from TigerDirect.

Doesn't your phone have a voice mail? Change the message to "I'm working outside without my phone and I'll get back to you shortly"
Problem solved

Why don't you stop by and help me with the chores and then I can have more time to chat on the phone

The Jawbone earpieces seem to be the highest rated for outdoor use, as they offer considerable noise cancellation.

I just saw that Plantronics Voyager Pro has a HD model for Android .... wow and the prices differ a lot too. Amazon says $92 (shipping free) and WirelessOEMShop.com says $68 (shipping $7) - big difference for the same item.

It's obvious that all this stuff is just way over-priced!
