We probably should have let this one go, too.

Sweetwater grandmother busted for cocaine

By DON KING

SWEETWATER - A 62-year-old Sweetwater grandmother arrested Wednesday while preparing Thanksgiving dinner for her family was charged with possession of cocaine.

Police Chief Jim Kelley said officers executed a search warrant at the home of Lucia Rodriquez about 9 a.m. and confiscated 20 to 25 individual "hits" of cocaine, along with approximately $2,000 in cash believed to be obtained through the sale of drugs.

Rodriquez was alone when the raid was carried out, Kelley said.

Cocaine Grandma

I mean -- if you aren't going to take people down for warrants to be arrested because they old, we might as well not take this grandmother down either on her warrant.

:Lmao:

It's the MEDIA's fault. Dumb Liberal media... trying to make it look like the mean ol' conservative Texas PD is holding the 97 yo. woman down!

Hmmm... does this mean I should no longer be agreeing with jlab on this one?

Actually, they do. Read the poll next to the article.

Sorry about that chief.
Was she more like Ann Richards or Laura Bush?

She ran a finishing school in TX, probably called her husband Mister, carried a lace hankie and drove a 67 birds egg blue buick.

My question:

Why in the blue hell is a forgetful almost 100 year old woman allowed to drive?

I have the utmost respect for the elderly. I love listening to the stories of people who lived in a lifetime where humanity went from horse-n-buggy to space-travel. So I don't mean to sound like I'm belittling the elderly in any way when I say that I do not think that they should be allowed to drive after a certain point.

It's nothing but a ticking time-bomb waiting to go off.

If she is able to pass the driving license stuff, I am betting she is more aware then any want to credit for.

A lot of you must have no experience with the elderly. Why people believe most the elderly are such sweet old people is beyond me. I have met some shrewd elderly people who will play you this way and that just for attention, to pay less, etc...

Have a garage sale sometime and you will meet half of them. :lmao:

I worked around a lot of elderly. Many play innocent (just like kids) but are far from it. They know plenty well whats going on.

My mom volunteers at the local nursing home and my sister is the director of nursing at another one. They can both tell you that all elderly people are NOT sweet nor powerless. My mom had a black-eye from one of them.

Anyway, rules are rules and apply equally to EVERYONE. Why should her age get her treated any differently? She broke the law and they arrested her in the manner used for law breakers. End of story.

:killingme :yeahthat:

Call it 'age descrimination' but I think when you reach the age where you are allowed to retire, you should also start having to 'retest' for your driver's license every two to three years. It's not a matter of descriminating against old folks, IMO ... it's a matter of public safety.

Ken King's going to come on here and slap us both around but I agree with you. I also don't think people with certain disabilities should drive, either.

We had a situation up here where some guy with epilepsy had his license taken away. He successfully sued for discrimination and got his license back. Then he promptly went out driving, had a seizure, and wiped out a man and his two young sons. Killed 'em dead. Needless to say, the wife/Mom wasn't particularly happy with the state of Maryland. :ohwell:

I agree but the only person I've ever heard of that's been responsible like that is...well...you know who. :yay:

In MD, the driver only has to be seizure free for three months. I don't feel that anyone who has epilepsy should be behind the wheel. It doesn't matter what medication you're on or how long it's been since you've had a seizure, you're still a risk. There is no way of knowing when or where you will have a seizure.

I’ll play the game you played on me in the gay marriage thread:

How is this affecting you?
What are you doing about it?

Um, duh. Didn't you read where the epilepsy guy whacked a man and his two children? I would say they were decidedly affected, wouldn't you?

know this was directed at Cari, but as a member of the public who utilizes the roads by way of POV, I consider it a matter of safety for other drivers/passengers. It's something that CAN affect other people's lives, and possibly cost them. And anyone who suffers from such an illness and knows of the possibilities but insists on putting others in possible danger is just down-right ignorant ... kinda like a person with HIV going around banging folks and not telling them he/she is HIV positive.

If you insist Vriablonde (and Cari). Why don't we outlaw all women from driving? Hell the only wreck on Mars was the fault of the woman operating the vehicle. Seems that would be enough to cause them to be banned here.

There are probably many elderly folk that drive better then younger folk; this woman had a clean record for 80 years. What reason do you have to ban her, age alone? Sorry that is a protected category within civil rights issues and would be Constitutionally prohibited. Who knows maybe this old gal could ride a mechanical bull without getting her face all smashed up, we know younger ones that don't possess that skill, now don't we?

Resort to name calling that is fine with me. I was showing you how stupid you sounded when you asked me the same question. Annoying isn’t it?

Check your statistics, friend. MEN get in significantly more accidents than women do.

Why be mean and get personal about it?

I fail to see what a mechanical bull has to do with a 97 year old woman driving. PS, in violation of the law, no less. PS, because she FORGOT to keep her car properly registered. What do you think she might "forget" next?

Ooooh NOOOOOOOO!
In 2000, NHTSA reported that the fatal crash rate per 100,000 persons was almost 3 times as high for male drivers than as for female drivers. Males accounted for 68% of all traffic fatalities, 68% of all pedestrian fatalities and 89% of all pedalcyclist fatalities in 2000.
