Grammy's: Did Dixie Chicks win off music or politics?

Why did Dixie Chicks win at Grammy's?

You made some awesome points. But I'm still amazed at the silence from the rest of the entertainment industry. I know there are musicians out there that knew they sold more, drew larger audiences and gave more for the industry but didn't win. The basically got dissed for the politics. Why isn't there outrage from the losers that knew they should win.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you imagine an entertainer ever winniog a Grammy after saying the Grammy only chose the Dixie Chicks becaues they bashed Bush?

If they knock the gods of the Grammy they can kiss their chances goodbye. I think this political appointment of the Dixie chicks pretty much proves that.

Country Music fans are some of the most closed minded, imbred hillbilles to ever walk the damned planet. The kind of people who get teary-eyed when a Chevy Truck commercial comes on and plays that "Like A Rock" song. Screw 'em... most of them don't have the brain cells to understand that some artists are going to have their political views which do not reflect their core audiences opinions.

Any other style of music can accept the fact that some bands are anti-war, but noooOOOOooo the budweiser-nascar hillbillies get in an uproar when this happens. Screw 'em. They can go back to having sex with their family members.

 What does imbred mean? Is this your way of showing the superior intelligence of the disco crowd?

This is one of the most racist, close-minded, bigoted statements I've ever seen. If country music fans are anything you say they are (which they're not), you just proved yourself worse.

Thanks for allowing us to see just how arrogant and full of hate you really are Stu.

The Grammys are supposed to be about success in record and concert sales; not some half-####ed political agenda that pushes those more deserving of winning those awards out because they didn't hold the same views. They have a right to have and speak whatever opinion they want, and if the Recording Accademy wants to create a category that recognizes a performer's political views then fine. But when the Chicks win Best Country Album or Best Country Song , when those were not even near the top ten, that spits in the face of those that were.

Note: What I said above doesn't matter because Stu is superior to all that is different than him/her.

A person who would post what you have should certainly not hold themselves up as being superior to iMbreds (your spelling, not mine).

Certainly any band can have whatever political philosophies they may choose, but certainly the listeners of that music have the right to not purchase their music. I might add that anyone who would base their own political thought on the thoughts of any performer, band, or celebrity needs to get a new way of seeking intelligent answers.

As for you last intelligent discourse **budweiser-nascar hillbillies get in an uproar when this happens. Screw 'em. They can go back to having sex with their family members.** Thats one of the most ignorant statements I have ever seen in a public forum.

Have you ever checked your own lineage?

Either you are a fluke or somewhere down the line you got some bad genes.

Nominated. Didn't win.

DID win two MTV awards, but that award ceremony has always been a bit of a joke.

Eminem has won the Grammy nine times and an Oscar for best song from a motion picture.

Since when? The Grammys are about "The Best" of the various categories, not sales. Of course, "the best" is an opinion, when it comes to music...which is why I don't pay any attention to the Grammys.

That said, I was happy to read about the Dixie Chicks winning so many...only because I knew so many of you would be crying about it after. :lmao:

I thought so, too. At least they're a whole lot easier on the eyes.

Yes, and this last round of awards proved this didn't it?

Not surprised that you would get joy out of the more derserving being pushed aside for left-wing political bullying. You liberals aren't really interested in making sure the derserved get their chance unless it supports your twisted political agenda.

Hate to say it, but that is rather pathetic. You had this big shadenfreude over this forum and people you don't know? You need a hobby. Personally, I'd like SOMETHING not have to do with politics.

And my reaction to the thing is that it just confirms what I've always thought. (What's ironic is that early on, the Grammy's were very biased in the opposite manner - they gave awards to the more lame non-rock and roll types. It was the ANTI rock award, and they gave it to the likes of Sinatra and Mancini and Herb Alpert). You have to admit, they don't stand a chance in hell of winning all five Grammys based on the music if there'd never been a Bush thing.

I also hate it when they give Academy Awards to people for similarly dumb reasons - like when they give awards to overlooked actors for performances that didn't merit attention.

You're right - I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.

This is the Grammy awards. :bigwhoop:

I have no agenda when it comes to which music group takes home the heavy paperweight. I don't consider one band to be more deserving than another when it comes to awards. If I like a band who is nominated, sure I'll pull for 'em...but that's the extent of it. It's not as if I stop liking them if they don't win...big freakin' deal.

Did something change? Do they execute the losers at the end of the night? If so, I'll have to start tuning in...

Did somebody from this forum personally suffer any misfortune as a result of the Dixie Chicks winning? I admit I find it amusing to see the usual suspects :jameo: over some perceived injustice brought about from the Grammy's.

I certainly can't admit they had no chance of winning. I haven't listened to their album or songs, so I have no way of saying whether they're any good. I bet most (probably all) of the whiners in this thread haven't listened to their whole album, either.

Protesting an award soley based on the fact that they dared say something negative about Bush (oh, the horror!!!) is equally as stupid as giving a music award for the same reason.

Well this isn't about your choice of music. It's about the all-too-transparent agenda of the entertainment industry.

If I was one of those musicians that knew my music reached more people by miles in every possible way I'd be furious some other musician got the award all for political reasons.

Consequently, it's been reported that the Chicks' record sales (both CDs and on iTunes) have soared as a result. Up to that point their sales were putrid. I wonder how the losers sales faired?

This stuck out to me as probably being (judging it's source) a highly inaccurate comment. So, a little research indicates that the album debuted at #1 it's first week, and stayed within the top 4 positions for it's first seven weeks. As of just this past January (before the Grammy awards) the album was certified at least Double Platinum in three different countries, including here.

Yep. Absolutely putrid.

Trivia question: What was the negative comment about Bush that set off all the controversy?

Is this in earnest - as in you don't know - or do you honestly think we don't?

I know the answer. I suspect most of you know the answer...but some may not.
