Help Sick DOG!

My Tri-county Rat Terrier became sick last night. I've had her since last Friday and she has refused to eat any hard food whatsoever! I went and bought a few cans of wet food and last night her tummy was screaming and rumbling and then IT happened all over the floor...yuk! Poor thing! NOW she won't eat at all. I gave her a little bit of Pepto but I think I need to find a different food....she's really picky and I don't want to keep trying different foods (prefer to stay away from the canned) because that'll keep her tummy upset and stool really runny! Suggestions??????

There has been a few cases of Parvo in the Lexington Park area. I know of 3, if your not sure about your dog's update on shots I would call the Vet.

Aren't dogs from shelters UTD on shots before being adopted?

First, I'd get her checked by the vet to make sure there isn't a real problem.

My RT barely ate when I first got her because she'd just been spayed. All she wanted was to sleep and drink water, but she'd take her antibiotics in peanut butter or lunch meat.

Now she eats a great deal but is very particular. She likes Pedigree for small dogs. It comes in pouches. She only likes the ground up stuff, not the chunky. Of course, she'd rather mooch from humans but it normally upsets her system, so we're very careful what she gets other than the Pedigree.

Does she seem lethargic at all? They are small doggies and just like Chihuahua's, maybe their blood sugars get too low. Try giving her a bit of molasses or syrup to give her a little sugar rush. Do you know if she got ahold of anything inside/outside w/in the past day or two? That might be giving her an upset tummy. Is she drinking water?

I've been watching her water intake for the past couple days and honestly she's not drank barely anything!!!! When we try to eat she perks right up and wants table scraps! I think my hubby did feed her some liver last night...Hmmm?

She does seem lethargic. She gets up and goes to the door when she needs to go out but other than that shes turned down anything else! I'm going to try the molasses....let you know.

Call the vet. Didn't you pick her up from a vet when you got her?

Yes I did but they aren't my "usual" Vets that I use. I'm going to call my Vet NOW! Thanks. Better safe than sorry!

Usually the first 2-3 days they are a little slow and in pain. Was she given antibiotics for infection?

She was very sleepy and painful the first few days and NO they didn't prescribed any antibiotics or anything for her.

Be sure to mention to the vet that she ate liver. Liver is rich and small dogs are very susceptible to pancreatis.
