She loves the rice and boiled chix! BUT, I'm going to have to find a good digestable food for her within the next few days because I can't afford to feed her that forever! :jameo:

I've been there. I never did find a dry dog food that my dog really liked to eat straight out of the bag/box. These days I give him a couple cups of dry food in the morning. He may or may not eat some it depending on how hungry he is. And in the evening I would give him a couple more cups of dry food. If he doesn't eat any of that, I mix it with boiled rice & chicken or other meat/gravy. Vet has us giving the dog Pepcid AC when his stomach does that rumbling that won't stop. You may want to pick a dry dog food (there was a past posting about good dry dog foods) and mix that with the boiled rice & chicken, at least while you're trying to wean her off the rice & chicken.

Thanks! I had her fast yesterday...just plenty of fresh water. She didn't throw up "from either end" at all last night and we all got a decent nights sleep! I know she's hungry because she keeps flipping the bowl over and kicking it! VET VISIT FIRST THING THIS A.M.!

First, I'd get her checked by the vet to make sure there isn't a real problem.

My RT barely ate when I first got her because she'd just been spayed. All she wanted was to sleep and drink water, but she'd take her antibiotics in peanut butter or lunch meat.

Now she eats a great deal but is very particular. She likes Pedigree for small dogs. It comes in pouches. She only likes the ground up stuff, not the chunky. Of course, she'd rather mooch from humans but it normally upsets her system, so we're very careful what she gets other than the Pedigree.

When I got my Romeo ( Papillion) He was very sick. I had many visits to the vets. Allot had to do with the fact he came from a bad breeder ( B**ch). Well I had him on meds for a while and only feed him plain chicken and rice That I made him.. When his stool became harder we gradually change him over to organic puppy food. Till this day I only feed him organic dog food. I do not trust many brands out there.
The poor thing probably got a virus of some sorts. Yes!!! definitely take your dog to the Vets. Even if it just to be on the safe side..

I'm getting a little impatient with the Vet's Office this a.m. I want to walk in and they're telling me they are SOOOO busy that they have to have my Vet call me back to see what HE wants to do. Yeah, that's not gonna work so I've called again and keep getting the same young girl, probably brand new and keep trying to STRESS that this is EXTREMELY IMPERATIVE! :jameo:

SO here's the update. NO MY VET COULDN'T GET ME IN UNTIL WEDNESDAY! I was SHOCKED AND EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED!!!! I've used this office for 20 years and NEVER A PROBLEM! The "Receptionist" wouldn't LET ME WALK IN as an EMERGENCY! WHAT????!!!! TO BOOT she was rude and treated me like an idiot. Saying that the scratching was probably due to fleas! NO I explained calmly for the 3rd time...I belive she's allergic to the chix that the Vet told me to feed because she hadn't been scratching and her stomach had gotten worse SINCE on the mixture! I pleaded to bring the dog in and have a fecal done and blood work! SHE SAYS, "BLOOD WORK!" WHAT DO YOU NEED THAT FOR? ARe you kidding me????? AS I ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN THE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION AGAIN....I gave up and told her to have the Vet call me. In the meantime, immediately I contact every Vet in the Tri-County area and NO ONE COULD MAKE ROOM FOR THIS SICK DOG! FINALLY, I called the Vet. (where she had her spay) and they told me to get her there a.s.a.p. So here's the diagnosis: HOOKWORMS, GASTRITIS, INTESTINAL DISEASE AND GUESS WHAT ELSE FOOD ALLERGIES! So, 5 medications later, a huge headache, stress beyond belief, 2 cans of prescription food and $200.00 I think WE MAY FINALLY HAVE SOME ANSWERS AND RESULTS TO FOLLOW! By the way, one of the Vets from the OTHER office called me and was RUDE AND CONDESCENDING because the other Vet's Ofc. had called them to let them know that I took the dog to them! How is it that you can be a client of 20 years and be dismissed so easily! I've never even had a sick dog in the past or needed an emergency visit! I'M AT A LOSS AND DISGUSTED! At least now my little Annie will hopefully start feeling better....wonder what would've happened if I would've have waited until Wednesday! THAT'S NOT COOL! So tomorrow I will be heading to a specialty store to purchase food that she can tolerate....by the way blood in her stool...but we can't "FIT" you in until Wednesday! WHEW! :jameo:

Brassie...I have a story much like yours involving a vet we always took our greys to. The black and white grey started acting funny, panting a lot. I walked in my bedroom to find him on the floor, panting, would not get up or look at me, his chest and stomach were bloated. I thought he had bloat which is vey common in greyhounds and deadly. Called the vet to get him in asap. They told us they couldn't see him until next week and no refer to the 24hr animal hospital in Waldorf. We ended up calling the P.F. animal hospital and they sent us right to Waldorf, even though our Greys were not patients. Turns out that he has a heart condition and had developed fluid around his heart. I made sure that our original vets office was aware of his diagnosis and we told them we would never be back. They didn't seem to care. P.F. has taken very good care of them.

Can you believe it? That's horrible! What happened to taking care of our pets? Have these VETS lost sight of WHY they became Vets to begin with! I'm writing a letter to that Office and am going to take it by and get copies of ALL of my pets records! If they can't or won't be accessible to me in a DIAR EMERGENCY then they won't get any of my other business! It's a real shame!

I felt this was the problem (7/19 post) when you said "gurgling in stomach"-better you found out now-
It is an extremely common parasite seen in the majority of all puppies and some dogs that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, bloody stools, anemia and even death in its host.
Since Hookworm eggs and larva build up in damp soil, often times the dogs in soil runs need to be moved to a non-infested area to prevent reinfection. If this is impossible and the pet keeps becoming reinfected, I would suggest keeping your dog on Filaribits Plus (a daily heartworm preventative with a low level wormer included which kills Hookworms, Roundworms and Whipworms) or another similar med., for a year or more while the Hookworm larva and eggs die off. Concrete surfaced runs or runs with deep pebble coverings allow the surface to dry allowing sunlight to kill the larvae. Young dogs should have a fecal exam done 2X's a yr to detect Hookworm eggs.
Having 5 dogs I have had similar experiences w/vets-shame on em! Word of mouth is your best defense!

I am so sorry about what you had to go through. :flowers: I have been there before, myself, needing emergency care for my dog. I did find out that in Waldorf, there is an Emergency Vet center open 24/7. I ended up taking my dog there and they were WONDERFUL!!!!!! Better equipped and more knowledge than any other vet I know. They are the better facility to handle emergencies. PM me if you want their contact information. They are more expensive than your local vet but well worth it! I hope your baby continues to feel better. :huggy:

Annie is a 6 year old Rat Terrier that I JUST ADOPTED LAST WEEK from Tri-County. Unfortunately we don't know any of her background or history. Apparently not such a good one! She's on ALL the right stuff and last night slept through the night FINALLY without her tummy screaming and without diggin' her skin to shreds!!! The OTHER Vet SAID they tested her last week and she was NEGATIVE for ANY worms! Obviously they either really DIDN'T TEST HER OR the person that READ THE RESULTS DIDN'T READ THEM CORRECTLY! That's Scarry!!!! :jameo:

There is an emergency clinic in Waldorf. I think it is off of Post Office Rd or something. Just in case you are in that situation again. They were great when I had to take my dog in. I was new to the county and had no local vet, it was after hours late at night when she got hit by a car. The new invisible fence I had installed didn't keep her in. They took wonderful care of her and her bill which covered I think about 2 weeks of care in house didn't bankrupt me!!
