Help Sick DOG!

Well if she just came from the shelter you do not know what she was exposed to prior to there and what she caught while being there. I do tip my hat to you for getting a shelter dog! I have had to give my dog boiled chicken and rice on a few occasions and it was usually due to what she ate a few days before and etc. Since she was also just spayed it is the best thing for her tummy and she will not get used to and only want that so do not let that worry you. Once she is feeling better though she should go to the vet and get checked and if so needed, treated for worms. Whip worms are famous for making a dog throw up as well as causing diaarhea. Many people think that because a dog may have been seen at a vet and then spayed before being adopted out that they are free of all illnesses (even worms). Some worms are cause from a dog licking itself and ingesting the flea eggs or fleas and this causes worms in their system. Better to take the records from the vet that spayed her and go see your vet so that they can advise you of everything else she should be screened for. Alot of people responding to this forum commented that their vets were very expensive and I know first hand that they are but I'll just suggest to everyone who reads these forums that the Well Pet Clinic charges only $10.00 for an office visit and the other routine stuff is very minimal. All Kinds Vet in Callaway has also proven to be very cost efficient and they are super nice there. I sure hope she gets to feeling better soon!!

You're all F'in Mad...
When I got my Chihuahua the breeder had me buy tubes of Nutrical from Petco which is a dietary supplement. I suspect this would help with your pet's nutrition but it sounds like you really need to get the pup to the Vets quickly.

Well I my feline pals have a combined 9 years of great health so far so I can't complain too much about this illness.
I've never had to take a cat to the vet for anything other than routine shots. And I've had dozens of cats over the years eating whatever cat food is the cheapest at the grocery store.

They must have all caught my healthy germs that immunize us against doctors and medical intervention. :diva:

Can you keep Chopper for a while?

I came home and the food I gave them both this morning was still there. They ran to the food bowls and stood over them giving me the look "I don't give a crap how much it costs we aint eating it." So I went to McKays and bought 8 cans of 9 Lives chicken parts with gooey gravy and Chopper tore it up.

So much for proper nutrition. I guess :gossip: will get 22 cans of high falutin premo cat food.

In a fit of Catt-induced guilt, I bought some IAMS catfood and dumped it in the bowl. Claudia and Katnip looked at it in horror :shocking:. They'd look at the bowl, then look at me, then back at the bowl, then back at me like, "What the hell is THIS???"

Moosie said, what the heck, and took a few tentative bites, which he promptly puked up on my dining room chair. :ohwell:

So back to the Safeway brand we went.

MeowMix Ocean seafood :yay: Even Timmy the Horse wouldn't eat the new stuff and he is NOT a discriminating eater.

Gave her the Pepto and later she ate a 1/2 cup of the Chix/rice mixture. She's also drinking water now. Her tummy isn't making all those wacky noices anymore and her attitude is definately improved! I had her tested at the Vets. that fixed her for "all" the worms and had her dewormed w/strongid. I did go ahead and make an apt. w/MY VET for Friday so he can check her over and read her records from St. Mary's. Thanks for everyones advice!

They are so cute! My lil' girl has an all black head with mainly white body but with BIG black spots on it!

She's not had the runs anymore and is feeling MUCh better! I'm still going to take her to my Vet to get a good once over! Not that I DON'T trust Vet that did the surgery BUT I don't know them and would rather my Vet do a physical and read her records! PLUS it really looks like she needs a teeth cleaning!

You got off easy... my girlfriend spent $2,000 for the same problem and it still ending up going to the big kitty litter box in the sky...:dead:
That happened to my cat too. I forget how they fixed the problem but I know it didn't cost anything what you paid.

12 lbs and she's a puppy? That's pretty big for a rat terrier. My big one was only 14 lbs, and that's when she was fat. Had to put her on diet dog food.

My Tri-county Rat Terrier became sick last night. I've had her since last Friday and she has refused to eat any hard food whatsoever! I went and bought a few cans of wet food and last night her tummy was screaming and rumbling and then IT happened all over the floor...yuk! Poor thing! NOW she won't eat at all. I gave her a little bit of Pepto but I think I need to find a different food....she's really picky and I don't want to keep trying different foods (prefer to stay away from the canned) because that'll keep her tummy upset and stool really runny! Suggestions??????

When my dad adopted a dog from Tri-county in December, he would throw up everything - even a drink of water. The Tidewater vet recommended feeding him rice with cooked hamburger. It worked.

He just had a culture shock and his upset stomach was the way he dealt with it.

Ours is 16.5 lbs, 6 years old. She's huge for a rat terrier. We call her cow dog.

I think that it was the same for her...I don't think Tri-County feeds the same food all the time since they rely on donations. She loves the rice and boiled chix! BUT, I'm going to have to find a good digestable food for her within the next few days because I can't afford to feed her that forever! :jameo:
