Maine Deadbeats Pay Back Strip-Search Cash

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- Nearly 300 people who were awarded more than $450,000 in a class action lawsuit over jailhouse strip searches handed the money back to the state to pay child support and related debts.

Former prisoners who believed they were illegally strip searched between 1996 and 2004 at the York County Jail were awarded $3.3 million in the 1,350-member, class-action settlement.

State officials discovered that 284 plaintiffs owed child support, and working with the state attorney general's office and U.S. District Court, recovered $463,000.

Of the total, $240,000 went to the children's families, and the rest went to state and federal governments to help repay the cost of public assistance during the time that support payments were not available, state officials said.

Did you notice the story in todays Emptyprize how much money each of the candidates have raised? JPC, Sr. has a big fat $0 and his name isn't even mentioned in the story.

Hey MMDAD, nice KOME sign. I havent seen that since I left San Fran 20 yr ago. There was this hoopy in Calif that was covered completely except the windows with KOME stickers. It was to funny. But they drove it everywhere. Thanks for the reminiseing.{sp}.

Me too. Along with San Jose, Campbell, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Foster City, and San Mateo. :lol:

I am planning a trip this summer to go visit my Grandparents.

:yay: I did not see the story but I do believe it completely.

Did you take note of the report that the State kept $210,000. of the $450,000. for themselves and did not give it for the children? That is the State collected the child support and kept over 40 percent of the cash.

What happened to child support going to support the child and not being taken by the State? The State steals the money from the separated parent and then again steals it from the children. The same is true for here in Maryland.

Now if you had REALLY read it. It says they gave the money back to the government to HELP pay back what was already given to the families from the prisoners NOT paying.

Please read before you post.

:popcorn: My name is in the story as it says I have raised zero ($0).

I like the report as I said all along that I am the uderdog against the status quo.

Look at the big money and see what the oligarchy looks like.

They have their big monies as their legal pay off for supporting the big business over running St. Mary's County. It is legal as we vote for the oligarchy and that is what we get.

Little District 29B has its Representative Bohanan with over $80,000. and expecting to have over $100,000. soon enough and who is it that gave 29B all that cash??????? Not I.

If the money was child suopport as is claimed then the money is to go to support the children. BUT - NO. The State pocketed over 40% or $210,000. out of the $450.000. that was said to be collected for child support.

A lie is a lie is a lie....... The State is lying.

THEY ALREADY GAVE IT TO THEM!! They were paying them back for already giving the children that money! Kind of like a loan they give you money but you have to pay it back.


But I guess you don't know anything about that, since they probably turn you down all the time.
