Agree.....Pay the $15 that way you cqan at least stop for coffee on the way home or if there calling for snow you have a couple of minutes to tackle everyone at the grocery store to grab the last loaf of bread , toilet paper and Milk.

Not worth the stress!! :jameo:
Thats not the problem, the problem is, its a matter of principle. If I pay the $15 then they've achieved their goal :jameo:

Or anyone else who wants to chime in. Is it ethical for daycare centers to set their clocks 5 minutes off of standard satellite time, in an effort to make people who can JUST get there by the deadline time, before charging late fees, 5 minutes late so they can charge late fees? Does that make sense? I got hit with a $15 charge on Wednesday because I was 2 minutes late by my cell phone, which would make me 7 minutes late by their time. It is $1 per minute after 6PM up until 6:30 at which point it is $2 per minute. Or, I can pay $15 a week and have until 6:30 to pick him up. I have no freakin clue where they came up with $15. I can get there by 5:55 my time, IF traffic is decent and there are no hangups whatsoever. It doesn't give room for error though. I refused to pay the $15 and now I'm left wondering if I should say something about it or find a daycare who doesn't use shady ways to rack up late fees.

Damn, you are lucky. I had to pick mine up by 5:30, or incur a harsh fee (and I did on numerous occasions) I would have been so happy to pay an extra $15 a week to not have to rush and pick them up before 6:30. The daycare closed down at 5:30, and that was it. :jameo:

Is it ethical if they set their clocks differently? No.

I'm so happy my mother-in-law is the daycare provider for my daughter and we don't have these worries. We are rarely there after 5:00pm, but we drop off pretty early, normally by 6:30am.

It's their "goal" to close at a certain time. Daycare providers are stuck in the house all day. We plan our Dr. appointments, dinner with friends, we plan our lives on what time we close. I play cards once a week and if I have a parent that is late, I deserve that 15.00.
When I am late for the Doctor....or can't go because a parent shows up late the doc still charges me, so why shouldn't I charge the parent?

When the bank closes at 6:00 it's closed. But if the parent doesn't show up...what are we to do? Put the child outside with a note pinned to their coat saying "sorry I missed you?" We can't do that and we would never even consider it. We are stuck...so just pay the 15.00 & get the eff over it.

their goal? Like they sit at night and plan to charge you 15$ for being late just to piss you off? If they close at a certain time then they close at a certain time. If you choose that daycare then you abide by their times.

The visual is too funny!!!
But you do have a very valid point.
Also, if you are late or miss a Dr.s appointment, some of them charge you for it!.
I like the suggestion to mention that the day care clocks are a "bit" fast.
Also, do other parents feel as you do?

I totally agree..

That, and either pay 7 bucks a day, which in term is 35 bucks a week, or pay the 15, and not have to worry about those 7 minutes...

My mom did daycare a many of years when I was growing up, and I was late to many ball games, and other functions, due to lack of parents getting their children on time...

This isnt the same thing. This is a school/daycare. I can totally understand where you are coming from as an in-home provider. I would pay it, IF their clocks were right and I was late :coffee:

But thats just it, when it comes to daycare, or other service providers, your clocks don't mean SHIAT... it's their clocks that matter, and they are the only ones that matter.

Here where I work, they are stickers on being here on time, and our clocks are 5 minutes which, which means we actually come in 5 minutes early, but...then we get off 5 minutes early, or overtime starts 5 minutes early..

so it works both ways kinda...

I try to come in late and leave early each day. I don't want to seem too dependable.

You're aware that the clocks are fast. Seems like your options are to adapt, move on or piss and moan about how unfair it is.
