I know Doug's shut down a while back, Im retarded and drove up and down 5 before I figured it out when we first moved up here. Is there anything like that around here?

We can only wish. There's Michaels and they're rather expensive, but that's all we have except the internet. What are you into?

If your looking for trains I would suggest G-scale Trains in Waldorf or Sidetrack Hobbies in Leonardtown. As far as R/C stuff I only know of GPA Hobbies in Crofton. But I think G-scale train is stocking fuel now that Doug's closed. If your looking for craft stuff I would go to either Michaels or A.C. Moore. Both have stores in Waldorf and elsewehere. However as stated they are expensive. If your looking for die cast or plstic model kits then I am a little at a loss. However all of the above stores carry a small assortment of these things.

Im kinda looking at rc stuff. i just bought a rc plane online and wanted to look at some other stuff

There used to be a hobby type shop on Rt. 2 North, just north of the 2/4 split. Right by the WaWa/Sheetz whatever the heck gas station. I don't know if it's still there.

There is also Bay Hobbies. They operate out of a glorified shed in a front yard off northbound 235, north of Oakville. No idea what they carry, but I think they do airplanes based on the small sign they have at the end of the driveway.

The place at the 2/4 split is called Falcon Hobbies. I forgot about that place. However the last time I was in there they had mostly skater stuff. However they did have an execllent collection of plastic models now that I think about it.

Sounds like a great business opportunity for someone if there are only 1 or 2 places in all of Southern MD. I wonder why they all go out of business though?

RC stuff; cars, planes etc. I haven't been there in maybe 4-5 years though. Pretty much had forgotten about the guy. Actually his glorified shed was neat and solid.

In a word, I'd say CA$H flow and the internet. Unless they are part of a larger chain, they can't afford to keep much merchandise in stock. People go in and find they can get the parts cheaper and quicker off the net. Just not enough demand to sustain the business.

Not disparaging his building in my previous comment. Just stating that from the road (at 55 or so MPH) it looks like an amish built shed. Nothing wrong with using one as a basis to turn in to a shop. As well built as most of them are, it wouldn't take much.

I wasn't critiquing your descripition but did want to add that I've been in there (5 years ago probably) and it was a nice setup. I'm not sure of the hours, that might be something the OP would have to verify by stopping to see what's posted.

Hey. and those Amish do some good work anyway

The problem is, everyone wants to use a store like this to look around and get hands on time with stuf. However when it comes to actually buying they go online and order where the price is the same, or cheaper, but they have no sales tax. Often times a small local place won't have exactly what you want anyway, and have to order it from a supplier.

It's really a catch 22 because everyone wants brick and morter service, inventory, and convience...but then they want online prices. The two really don't go togethor unless your talking a massive business. A brick and morter business can never compete with some internet dropshipper on price just because of sales tax alone.
