One of the problems with the media is that they don't do their own work; they just repeat what they see on other outlets. So, say, Politico posts some stupid lie, it gets picked up by MSNBC and untold bloggers, spread all over the internet on social media sites, then ABC/Fox/CNN/etc pick it up and run with it.
That's why you'll see some ridiculous story on, say, Fox and in it they'll say, "According to (fake news blogger)...."
