How many gears?

My current motorcycle is a 2000 Harley Nightrain. 5 speed, but it just seems like it's geared too low in 5th. Don't have a tach on it so I can't really tell, but by the sound of the engine it seems to really be winding out at about 70 - 75. Wanted a new one this year, but I think I'll wait. Money is going to be tight.

I've got six on my V Strom. Don't know of any more than that unless you count the CVS transmissions on scooters

You'll be dead some day. Get you a new scoot, man!

You'll be VERY happy with 6th gear over 60 mph :buddies:

What did you buy?

Still have the Strat which is only 5 speed.

I've ridden a bunch of HD's the past year, 5 speeds and 6's. It's what you say with only 5; just lotta rpm's at highway speed. The 6 is really nice.

Thing is, if you wanna #### 'n git, you gotta drop down to 4th with those tiny 98's and 103's.

I've got to be doing at least an indicated 70 before I can hit sixth gear without lugging the engine.
Very much an interstate gear for my bike.

Yeah, I'd think so with the 1000.

You happy on it doing much highway???

It cruises real smooth at 80, gets 45+ mpg at that speed. I feel zero vibration in the seat or pegs, added gel grips and eliminated the slight buzz in the bars.

I like the new Harley Street Glide and the price isn't bad, but I'd have to put a whole bunch more money into it just to get it low enough for my feet to touch the dayum ground.

I'm sure you've already talked to DR but, I think his SG is lowered, stock, an inch or so? And they have a seat, narrower in the front than stock, some call it the 'chick' seat, that effectively lowers the bike another 1-2" because it doesn't splay your legs as far apart, allowing the not so long legged among us to get their feet on the ground.

'07 and up is 6 gears IIRC as well as 96' and 6 gal tank. Buddy has an '06 that is 5, 88 motor and smaller tank. Get the bike, man!

Nope, but I have a narrow seat like you mentioned. I put the stock seat back on though.

My Nightrain was already lowered when I bought it. Just put a seat on that lowered it a little more. I can put both feet flat on the ground. Talked to a few guys that bought new bikes and to get it lower, a lot of work had to be done on the front fork, shocks, etc. $$$
