How much do you spend on groceries?

Damned glad to meet you
My secret is making my own food. I don't eat out because I can make a better meal than can be bought at a restaurant. It takes work but it's worth it health wise and money wise. If you catch some decent sales and put some thought into it a little can go along way. This past Saturday I had grilled filet mignon and lobster with homemade basil pesto, homemade hummus and crusty bread. The tenderloin and lobster tails were on sale that I had frozen, and I grew the basil. About $16. Another time I bought a pork tenderloin on sale, prepped it and had teriyaki pork w/fried rice friday, pork bar-b-que saturday, and Hawaiian lua pork w/pineapple on sunday. Like I said, alot of work but cheap and delicious.

Usually I'm home alone for dinner, so we don't spend much on food anymore. I shop at Safeway on my way home in the morning after work and by the time I get there they've usually put the sale meat out - I don't know when we've paid full price for steaks - I always get them 30 or 50% off in the sale bin. They usually have a sell by date a day later, so I just throw 'em in the freezer.

When I find something I like, I send an email to the company. Takes 3 minutes to type a "hey I like your stuff" email and I get lots of coupons for $1 off or sometimes even FREE coupons, and the good thing is, it's on stuff I already know I'm going to buy, rather than someone trying to switch me to their product. I have no idea what we spend on groceries; I think I'll keep track for a month or two. Thanks for the idea.

YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG unless you have a family of 8 or 9!

How often are you eating out for goodness sake?! What are you eating at home? Lobster and Steak every day??! :yikes:

I have fam of 5 an we spend about $800/mo TOTAL! Groceries, eating out, snacks, bought lunches, etc.

We buy live Maine lobster twice a week and really enjoy prime cut steaks. Things are changing though....

We spend $700.00 on food for 4 adults. I look at the store adds see what's on sale and plan each nights dinner and make enough for leftovers for the next day or have bread and lunch meat always on hand for a sandwich lunch. I use coupons and try to save at least 25% on each shopping experience. We rarely eat out and when I do I go to restaurant.com and get a coupon for usually $10 for $50 worth of food or $5 for $20 depending on the places prices.

We've learned that chuck roasts and pork butts and loins have enough fat in them to be especially good at turning into something delicious, with the right preparation.

Agreed and I also like to grill chuck steaks - enough fat to be good and flavorful.
