Storm surge has been downgraded a bit to 9-13 feet in the worst locations. Still not good, but better than predicted earlier.

Interesting, something I did not know... as a storm lowers in speed/intensity, the area of storm winds increases to encompass a bigger area. Makes sense.

So far, all 3 nieces are hunkered down in Lakeland, and Orlando. The 2 in Lakeland are all staying together in 1 house - with 2 dogs, and 4 kids. :D So far, so good! :yay:

Brother lives in Cudjoe Key, FL (ground zero for Irma in 2017 for which he evacuated, and was lucky to return to find the house he rents relatively unscathed) He's reporting that most of their winds have died down and it was pretty much a nothing burger for them. (high winds and rains--just another very stormy Florida Keys day)

Brother in Tampa just told me winds are picking now and heavy rain. No power obviously. Said they hyped it up more than it is.

Friends in Naples, Cape Coral and Fort Myers report they are ok with minimal damage. There was some flooding but none of them were directly affected.
Brother is supposed to head back to his house in Ft Meyers tomorrow and let us know how they fared.

Watched a bunch of reports from the direct-hit area. Lots of wind damage, but it doesn't look like they got nearly the surge they were predicting.
