Everyone seems to think I should leave it dark and that I would be making a mistake by going blonde.

If you want to lighten your "jet black" hair, why not go "brown"..?

My hair is a natural dark brown and I have gone blonde twice with good results and no fried hair. Get a consultation with Jackie Buckler of Hair Company. She will be able to guide you. You may have to go dark blonde with lighter blonde highlights as I did.
