I cant roller skate much less ice skate. It amazes me how they make it look so effortless.

I was never that great on roller skates, but I was horrible on ice skates!
The farm I grew up on had a large pond and winter ice skating parties with bonfires, chili and hot chocolate were the thing. Even though it was very rural, sometimes there would be 20+ neighborhood people skating on the pond when we'd have nice thick ice and decide it was a good night for a party. Late 1960s...Me, too!
I've always loved watching it, also! I was never that great on roller skates, but I was horrible on ice skates! I don't believe we ever lived anywhere that the weather was cold enough TO ice skate!! Any attmepts to ice skate were downright embarrassing. And dangerous.

I moved to Southern Md in 1974. I think *maybe* 1 or 2 winters we had a little tiny pond we could skate on.The farm I grew up on had a large pond and winter ice skating parties with bonfires, chili and hot chocolate were the thing. We kids played hockey on that pond. I wonder what happened to my old skates...
