If you could retire today...

In My Opinion
No. A Mom and Pop store down the road is NOT city.

I want beer, a cabin and possibly cable. Definitely a basement.

Give me a library, some candles and I'll be fine. My Dad taught me how to make beer when I was 3 years old. PITA and I would rather buy it.

You didn't say Mom and Pop, you said convenience.
Just how long until you are begging for a mall,,,

Im talking I want to live where the closest store is cause for a day trip.

It is where you are now. Just walk.

My choice would be Bozeman, Mt, but that ain't happening. Just too unaffordable since Hollywood and Ted Turner bought it all up in the 90's. The entire region - W Mt, N Id, NW Wy is incredibly beautiful, and we have been there many, many times.

My realistic choice would be the San Diego area. Best weather on the planet, and still affordable as long as you're not within 5 miles or so of the coast.

That would work too.

Asheville, NC area. Mountains everywhere, golf, Blue Ridge Parkway, fantastic mountain biking, VA hospital regional center, artsy-fartsy, party and cultural center for the region. Has it all, but ain't cheap. It is a retirement haven. Been there many times visiting mom and dad who retired to there in 1982.

I abhor malls and just want a place where I can buy milk, eggs and beer...oh, and low priced cigs. Mom and Pop convenience store.

Probably Virginia.

It's beautiful in Asheville. I went there for a HS football game in '95 and remember how much I loved it then. I must go back soon.

Needless to say no one is talking to her, after they openly cursed in her face and told her to go back to the city.

Liberals Fleeing Cali to Montana / Wyoming [Jackson Hole] did the very same thing

taxes are now so bad, they had to exempt the 100 yr old family farms, or the owners were going to have to sell ....

Biggest little city in the USA that is immediately abutted by nothing, snow but not alot, gorgeous scenery, Vagas like without being too much, cheap land, Lake Tahoe and California close but not too close, Sierra Nevada mountains, #7 on Kiplingers tax friendly states fo rretirees.

Sounds great!

Reno area is really beautiful and fun. NAS Fallon, home to Top Gun, is nearby (about 70 miles east, considered nearby in out west mileage) as well. Gets cold in the winter.

It looks awesome, pics on the 'puter wise!

It has the elevation that Tejas doesn't.
