I went to a bar last weekend, and ordered a round of drinks. I signed the receipt and didn't put a tip because the bartender was so incredibly rude. So I am checking my bank account today, and apparently the bartender took it upon herself to add four dollars onto the merchant copy....so it became 24. That is soo irritating. Can they do that? Especially if you have already signed it and totalled it out?

I've heard of this happening to people. Call the bar and talk to the manager. My BFF had a $10 tip added to her carry-out order at a restaurant. When she complained, she was reimbursed for the unauthorized tip, as well as for her salad.

Take the receipt in and show how much you signed for. I'm sure they'd give you your $4 back...

don't have a receipt.. at least not anymore. I have no clue what happened to it......I will have to look. But I am not blowing 5 bucks worth of gas to get four back. I should call them and cuss em out. I won't ever go there again.

If I use my debit card but leave a cash tip, I always make sure to draw a line through the tip line. I'd definitely say something.

Just call, but don't cuss them out.

This is why you should let your new boyfriend buy the drinks.

Call them up and tell them you are not coming back and to mail it to you. I went to PF Changs a few weeks ago and ordered food to go stupid me did not check to make sure the entire order was there and they ended up leaving out 2 dishes so I called them up and complained and a few days later I recieved $50 in gift cards there

Yes, they can do that. You need to put in "$0.00" or draw a slash/ziggy line in the tip line to keep them from filling it in the tip.

You need to take your copy and "bank statement" to the resturant and ask to speak with a manager. The manager will takes care of it. Before you leave, make sure you are able to get a "credit" back. If not, then go to your bank, file "dispute" form and explain your situation to the bank person who is helping you.

I had something like that happened to me last year. Someone stole my credit card number and tried to get away with paying for alot of pizzas with my credit card in Fort Worth, Texas. I have never been to Texas and I was late in pregnancy, so there was no way I could have go all the way to Texas and back home within a day. After discovering the charge, I went to my bank and they took care it with no problems. I was able to get my money back and new credit card right on spot.

Miserable. i didn't tip her because she was extremely rude. Then the other dude that was a bartender came over...and said..make sure you tip her. I was seriously pissed at that point. My friend told me don't even bother tipping. It was completely and udderly selfish of someone to say make sure you tip. Please....what did she do besides take two caps off of beers and make two malibu baybreeze.. I think she left out the malibu anyways....

Tips aren't required. They're earned.

 How is that legal?

Oh, I mean it is not legal. I'm sorry, I worded it the wrong way. I meant they can do it if it is left blank. They can "steal" money if it is "blank". Therefore, you need to fill it out with $0.00 or slash/ziggy line to keep them from filling in the tip amount they wanted.
