In My Opinion
Yet you only believe in Jesus and (Christain) God because of exposure, environment, culture and minimally logistics.
  • If you were raised in the Middle East, you'd most likely be a Muslim, for the exact same reason.
  • Grow up in Israel, your gonna be a Jew
  • Grow up in India, your more than likely going to be a Hindu (or to a smaller extent a Muslim).
  • Grow up in Asia, you'll be a Buddhist.
You may change after exposed to something else, but you still have to have been exposed to it. Which, realistically, is not really different than where you grew up.

Some, on here, dont like facing that truth, but it doesnt change the fact that Your belief if based on where/how you grew up, and what you were exposed to. If you were not exposed to Christianity you would not wake up one day, shrug off Muslim/Hindu/Buddhism and then decide "Hey i want to follow this other belief, that i know nothing about, heard nothing about, instead".
I was exposed to science also.
were you exposed to a religious upbringing?

If you were NEVER exposed to science, what would you think?

Well, science isn't a religion or a belief system. And it would be kind of difficult to be not exposed to science. Because science is universal. Whether you're in India or Ohio or believe in Vishnu, Jesus, or Mohammed, the acceleration of gravity is still -9.81 m/s-squared. But I understand your point...sort of.

I wouldn't.

ba Zing!

(I was exposed to a religious upbringing (way more then most I'd say), and it's bunk in a lot of ways)

Clearly, there is truth to what you say. From a practical point of view, if you don't know about it, you probably won't believe in it.

This is one of the reason why I so strenuously object to NOT discussing anything but one unproven theory in science classes. And, discussing it as though it were fact, with nothing but extrapolation of tiny bits of tangentially related data to "prove" a point. Sooner or later (too soon, and then too late for the ones involved), that theory will become most of what someone is exposed to, and therefore what they will believe without serious question (as so many do on here).

Teach that there are differing thoughts, and none of them have any real, substantive proof (because that's the truth), and let people decide for themselves.

It all boils down to this:There Is Only One Truth!

1.) A Supreme Creator God is responsible for all Creation through Intelligent Design and makes Himself known to those who seek Him,

or;

2.) Science/Darwinism Theory: Billions of years ago, the universe and all life originated from a single cell and through Evolution after a giant explosion of "matter" (of unknown origin).

It does boil down to There is only one truth. But, the fact of the matter is neither of the things you said above have any legitimate proof to them to declare them TRUTH. You and I believe in a God (maybe we believe slightly differently, but we still believe in one God). Others believe in other things. None of us hold any more evidence than the other that we're right - it boils down to what you choose to believe in. Even then, faith or no, we could all be wrong.

There is only one truth, and none of know now what that is.

Hmmm... actually, there are many genuine evidences of people who have had a spiritual and life changing experience that brought them to faith in God and the belief that Jesus Is The Way, the Truth and the Life, as mentioned in (John 14:6).

I personally attest to the change that occurred in my personal life, when His Divine Intervention saved my marriage. The change that continues to be a better person through the Holy Spirit's guidance is a result of placing faith in the Saviour that God sent to save my soul and the souls of all who believe. (John 3:16)

I avidly studied and enjoyed learning the sciences and the theories they present but realized there are un-ending answers (that end up changing from time to time). I found my answer while searching for God.

While many people believe Darwin, I realize it is Jesus who brought the Truth.

Again, you're describing how BELIEF can work, and be a great thing for a person.

Objectively, you have to admit there is no proof. If there were, there would be no need for faith. Proof is not how your belief changed you, it's God coming down and saying "yeah, I'm 'I AM', and I'm here to prove to you I can do and know everything". Outside of that, I see no way to PROVE God's existence.

Just like, without knowing the conditions of the earth at life's formation, and the ability to reproduce that, there is and can be no proof of abiogenesis. Without a test that has no universe as a given, with the result being this universe, there can be no proof of the Big Bang. Without taking lifeless water and mud and turning it into plants, animals (including humans), insects, etc., there can be no PROOF of evolution as it applies to humans.

No proof = no proof. Nobody has it, and we all should just admit it. We believe what we choose for our own reasons, and none of them are really very good. It's just what we choose.

Many who have had a personal spiritual and life changing experience through God's Intervention become proof that is also evident to others. Paul's experience, as related in the New Testament, was one of a zealous religious man who did not believe Jesus could be The Son of God. Paul's ongoing persecution of Jesus' followers came to a halt and an about-face through his personal encounter with the risen Lord.

That's what it takes, a personal encounter that brings one to the realization of what is Truth. While scientists are unable to have a personal/spiritual encounter that proves the concept of evolution, God is able to reveal Himself to those who seek Him with a sincere heart.

Again, the teachings of Jesus hold firm, not only for me but for many who have been born-again by the Grace of God:

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
(John 8:32)

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
(John 8:36)

While I agree with you from a personal perspective concept, you must realize that there is still no objective proof. This is how belief has changed people, not proof of how God changed people.

Try not to think of this from the perspective of someone who believes, because that taints your objectivity. I agree there is a God, and (from my perspective) God is Truth. However, it is impossible to prove. Just like evolution, Big Bang, abiogenesis..... None of these things fully answer any question it tries to, it leaves huge gaps. One must have faith that the answers are out there, and they'll be gotten by whichever method you believe in.

I agree that people will have varying experiences in their search for truth. Jesus commended those who believe just on "faith" alone without having to have "proof". However, it is the experience of those who place faith in Christ that He, through the Holy Spirit, provides proof as a matter of confirmation that one cannot deny or claim to be "coincidence" of an event.

There was a time that I only believed (like many others) that God existed in the "great somewhere" but I gave little regard to the importance of having to trust my life in Jesus. The spiritual revelation that Jesus was in fact The Divine Son of God is what changed my life - prior to that I believed that as long as I lived a clean, moral life (ha-ha) I would be OK. Not so in my case. I personally need a Saviour and it was through God's Divine Intervention that the Truth of who Jesus was/is became evident and proof.

I sincerely believe that God will give proof to those who really seek proof:

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
