My brother wants to be donated to "The Body Farm" where they throw the dead bodies in the woods or swamp or whatever they may be studying at the time and then document the decaying process and use this info for forensic science.Christy said:I want that. rent is subsidised.kwillia said:Is this really true? I have only ever heard of waiting list for such "homes"![]()

You are under no obligation to take your MIL into your home. In this country there is no such thing as being thrown out on the street. She applies for state aid and they throw her in a home. End of story.

And I have only heard of long waiting list Elder Care apartments as well. There seem to be more destitute old people than spots to put them in...:shrug:aps45819 said:rent is subsidised.

Actually, the places that we've investigated for our mom, the waiting period is very narrow. If we wanted to put mom in nursing care tomorrow, we'd probably be able to do it. However, I'm sure that the scenario would be much different if we had to rely on Medicare to pay for her nursing home care. If there is self-pay or insurance doing the paying, the nursing home will bend over backwards to get you in. From waht I can gather - and I may be wrong - the Medicare slots are few, and the demand high, so the wait can be awhile to get a Medicare-paying space. Please correct me if I'm wrong.kwillia said:Is this really true? I have only ever heard of waiting list for such "homes"![]()

She has already established that there is no money for them to pay for a nursing facility and there is no insurance so her mother would be in need of one of the few medicare slots that are in high demand.BadGirl said:Actually, the places that we've investigated for our mom, the waiting period is very narrow. So Vrai's and Ap's assumptions that the government will just take care of it are overreaching and rdkarob has valid concern and will most likely be moving MIL into the play room.cattitude said:You have to meet the level of care to even be considered for a medicare slot. My 95 year old grandmother who has osteoporosis does not qualify.

Or she could say, "Too bad - you did it, you sit in it," and refuse to take responsibility for her in-laws' mistakes. :shrug:kwillia said:So Vrai's and Ap's assumptions that the government will just take care of it are overreaching and rdkarob has valid concern and will most likely be moving MIL into the play room.
