They're not gonna lower that price until their storage tanks are filled with that cheaper gas. Why sell something for less than you paid for it?
Maryland has a law that you can’t sell gas for less than you paid for it. It’s supposed to keep places like Wawa and royal farms from using it as a loss leader.

My understanding is long ago station owners paid for fuel when it was delivered.
In todays world its paid for when its been sold.

This is the stupidest thread and that’s a low bar on this dumpster fire of a forum.

Gasoline has been sold for over 100 years and I guarantee there has always been some idiot accusing someone of price gouging. Just always go to Wawa, you’ll never find a cheaper price.

It should all be CHEAP! Biden is depleting the National Reserve to manipulate price because it is coming up on election day and voters only see gas prices coming down. They forget what was and only see what is!!!

How can you set a price if you don’t know how much you’re going to pay for it in the future without falling afoul of this law?
I didnt say the dealer doesn't know what they are paying for it. What I said was I believe in todays world, they don't pay for it until its been sold.

Not many owner/operators left the insurance on the underground gas tanks ran them all out of business & EPA... so most stations are selling gas for other larger companies -- and pay for what they sell... the station usually only makes 5-10 cents off a gallon... the big money is further up the food chain... for small stores the gas sale just gets the people in the door and they hope they buy something inside ie: sodas, snacks etc

Simple solution:
Don't get gas at Birdie's.

I think it's a different company now but the BP in Dunkirk was always $0.40/gallon more than at Shell/WaWa/Safeway there. And there were always cars getting gas. Now, that may be because it was the only station there on the northbound side.

Price at Wawa this morning: $2.88
Price at Birdie's this morning: $3.29
I'd be willing to bet if you went in to get a loaf of bread or gallon of milk it would also be more than it is at Walmart or Giant.

Thought it was a small out of the way station. Didn't realize it sat on the corner of 5 and 245. Don't see any other stations in the immediate area. So maybe they are simply selling at a price the market will bear? Also read that they get very bad reviews.
Keeping it high to punish all those Hollywood elites I bet...

Birdies is like the old joke - Why are you selling gasoline for $1 Million per gallon? That way I only need to sell one gallon.

Seriously, if the price is too high, don't pay it. It isn't gouging when other paces sell for less.

IMO the price gouging from all stations is the 93 octane. Remember when 89 was 10¢ higher than 87? And 93 was only 20¢ higher than 87? Now it can be as much as 80¢ to $1.20 more than 87.
