Is the Duke Case unravelling?

His incompetence is amazing. The only thing worse is the fact that he was re-elected. That doesn't speak well for the stereotype of NC residents as stupid hicks.

I hope his misconduct is found to be beyond the protections of his office so that the players will be able to sue him for every penny he has or will ever earn.

:nono: I think it's pretty clear that he used this case as a way to garner support and votes from a particular group of folks, and I assure you, it wasn't the "stupid hicks" of Durham county. They're just as bamboozlebaffled as the rest of us.

April 10, 2007 — The office of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper will announce that he is dismissing all charges against three Duke Lacrosse players, ABC News has learned from sources close to the case.

Now what?

Legal analysts and forensic experts have criticized what they call a critically flawed photo identification lineup — a lineup that led to the identification and indictment of Evans, Finnerty, Seligmann. No DNA evidence was found matching any lacrosse players with samples from the rape kit, while DNA from unidentified men was found on the accuser's body and clothing.

This was known within a very short amount of time after the March 14, 2006 'incident'.

As they say, where do you go to get your reputation back?

Guess that explains the folks in Boston and Ted Kennedy.

After having their lives put under a microscope for over a year now, with all the false allegations, changing of the woman's testimony, the DNA evidence being held in silence at Nifong's urging, and then the NC Atty General's takeover of this case, I would imagine these three will attempt to take some recourse from Mike Nifong.

What would you do?

This is grounds for a justifiable lawsuit. Nothing trivial here.

When the story first broke, commentators followed the typical pattern of using the story to push their own attitudes or agendas. Some focused on the alleged white/black aspect. The local commentators focused on the alleged rich-college-student/poor-townie aspect. The sports commentators saw it as spoiled college athletes thinking they were exempt from normal rules of conduct. Generally I think it's a mistake to treat any story like this as proof of any political or sociological viewpoint.

Seems to me this is a prime example of run away media coverage tainting the justice system.

Heh I said "tainting".

I have to agree with all that you have said. However, isn't this case typical of how the news media treats them? They just love it; they can't wait to get their greasy points of view on the airwaves; graphic pictures, scenes of the frat house, etc.

As you said, they focused on every issue possible - from the racial standpoint, rich college kids, poor townie dancer girl, just trying to make a dollar. Then, throw into the mix Mike Nifong - eager to boost this case to the highest level - in order to gain political support from the black community.

It was a trainwreck from the getgo; one that should have never gathered that much steam from the begining(pardon the pun).

Now I have Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" running in my head.
