I'm glad I've decided to stay home with Kathy tomorrow. It'll give me more time to batten down the hatches. And on the way home from work on Tuesday, I'll join the masses who haven't completed their stockpiles yet.

It's easier to prepare for an earthquake... you get it drummed into your head from an early age: have shoes & flashlight by your bed; have water, food, change of clothes, heavy gloves, radio, flashlight, batteries in your car; have complete 3-day supply of all of the above for every member of your family in weather/pest proof storage in your home. It's like always having gas in the car, or always remembering the milk & bread. It's routine.

Now I have all new routines to learn. I kinda love it. OTOH... what a PITA.

I wish we had a :shivering: smilie. I'm skeerd, and I don't care if people make fun of me. :frown:

Oh, no worries, bud, I am. My family is number one. (And my boss isn't really that bad, and I am loyal to her... but the firm... grr.)

(And I was joking about the tequila. I don't drink. But I wish I did sometimes.)

hurricane email from back home

This just in from a pal back home, more original than "gimme an earthquake any day:"

"Now, Kim and Kathy, as I read your e-mail it appears that you have one family member recuperating from surgery, another still coping with a heart attack, and a hurricane on its way. You two seem to be having all the fun!!! Whether it's the hurricanes, or tornadoes or even earthquakes, nature does have a way of putting our lives in a spin that is challenging, doesn't it? All right, now the patio furniture and everything else is inside. The cats are seen to and you have plenty of water, batteries and snack foods on hand. Sounds as if you have Beulah Land taken care of."

OK this thread got too large to read all the way through so sorry if this is a repeat post. Got this from a friend at the fh and wanted to share just basic precautionary measures.

"Please visit http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/disaster_prevention.shtml for tips on what to do to prepare. Let's not wait until the Hurricane is imminent, we need to start to prepare now! The current prediction is that we may see Isabel sometime between Thursday and Friday.

Please see link below to keep an eye on Isabel:

Oh and BTW, Giant has lots of bottled water on sale so if you plan on stocking up there do it now b/c of the sale and then the panic there may not be much left there.

I heard on the news this morning that if it's as bad as they say we are in trouble b/c there aren't many national guard units left in the area to help out.
