It's official now - Apple will take over the world

I can browse the internet almost flawlessly on my iphone. Movies... really? You are going to download a movie on to a 10" screen just to watch it on a tablet? In your house? Waiting for it to load via a slow as #### dock/wifi? Books, sure it might have a market for books, but even the kindle has a pretty small market, plus it is far cheaper.

The Kindle can't even hold a candle to this device. And, you can't exactly carry a TV on the road with you. This will eventually change the idea of having stationary TVs all over the place. Your media will travel with you - you will watch it, or read it, or listen to it wherever you want - inside your house and outside it. It will conform to your life - not you to it.

Awwwwooooooooo
What do you mean? This is how content creators will deliver their content. It will be cheaper than conventional methods of delivery, easier than conventional methods of delivery, and more customizable and interactive than conventional methods of delivery.

This is not a netbook - it is much more than that.

I have a big library of .mkv videos, please tell me how I get those onto my iPad.

The infrastructure required to even try this is beyond your imagination. I know, japan already has TV that streams directy to their phones. The only reason they can do that is because they have an island to broadcast to.

Please, show me how this can display tv? It can't even look at youtube with out an app.

have to convert, but most people dont have .mkv or even know what that is. this is for the masses not the few and yes I know that few in this case is millions (.mkv users.) you make a product to market to the masses.

that's the point. you make something that uses apps. apps are easy to understand and use for the masses. why is there a need to watch youtube with out an app on this?

I have no idea. That's the point you are missing - this will change the notion of media ownership. You won't 'own' limited pieces of media, to be laying around, not getting used, for those few moments when you actually want to use that particular piece. Media will be something you use - whenever you want, whatever you want. Everything is at your finger tips at almost anytime - you don't have to buy a particular movie in case you want to watch it some day. When you want to watch it, you do - wherever you are.

Media delivery systems, and their pricing models, will change. On the whole, media use will be cheaper and more accessible.

And thats my point. This and almost all apple apps don't allow you to transfer data, they don't allow you to install codecs, or display .tiff images (guessing here). That is why this will never work as a multimedia device.

You have no concept of bandwidth do you?

not for you because you like to do more, but for those that just want simple easy to use things this will. you didnt answer my question, if you have an app that does it then why would you want to do it another way? if you need a pc you have one to do what you want with it. this is not a pc replacement.

I most certainly do. Do you think the world is a static place, or do you understand that we change it?

Besides, a large portion of the data transfer done with these devices will occur in the home - it won't be an increase in content traffic, but it will be a more convenient use of it. We'll have fewer TVs, DVD players, gaming systems, book shelves, etc. - we'll have these types of devices instead.

It's okay, it took some people a while to understand how important fire was and how profoundly it will change people's lives.

I would like to state that I think this will have a market, but I have a different view then you. I dont think this is as important as fire

This. ------------------>
Its a netbook replacement. It will have a market.

If you get the decked out, most expensive model is it a MaxiPad?

Personally, I'd rather have a netbook. Cheaper and more powerful. Real keyboard built in, too.

Oh it will have a market, it is an apple product. Infact we will probably see atleast 2 or 3 more generations. But it WILL be a fad nothing but a gimick. Take a look any where on the net and you will see the truth. Everyone thinks apple way over hyped this. It IS a 10" iPhone with out the phone part.

 Yeah - fire was intentional hyperbole. Point being, revolutions often happen unnoticed under our feet. This is a revolutionary product and will revolutionize media content delivery, and the way we interact with it. When you try to analyze what something will mean, but you limit yourself to conventional operational models (and the incidental details of those models), you prevent yourself from being able to see the big picture. People are kinda myopic - but that's okay, we only need a few Steve Jobs.

This is far from being a cool toy or a neat gadget. When we look back in 3 or 4 years, we will all realize that.

I would say that it was over hyped by the media not Apple. Media wants money, Apple has fans, talk about Apple and you make money. No different than sites like TMZ and so called stars.
