I just don't see too many people having a desire to carry something this big around with them so they can have access to digital media whenever they want.

I would really hate to see people walking around, not paying attention to where they were going because they were busy watching the Jersey Shore while walking down the street, driving down the road etc.

It does have the cool factor but in the end I think it would just be a hassle to have on you at all times.

It does look perfect for digital hospital records though. A Dr could have instant access to your records, a PDR, Grays Anatomy etc.

It really isn't that big. Apple iPad hands-on - Engadget Galleries
I would say the size of a day planner or composition book.

But I am with you. I worry about people walking and watching.

For what it is, it is small but it won't fit in your shirt pocket. So you either have to have it in hand or wear a backpack to keep it in.

Might work in an office environment, say take it down the hall, to a meeting to have info on hand. A bigger, more sophisticated Palm Pilot.

If you want it to fit in your shirt pocket get an iPhone or iTouch. I want it as a device to use at home for reading, email, internet, photos, etc. etc. etc. I will probably take it with me as well but it's primary use for me is going to be at home.

Ill get the wifi one and you can try it out. I have wireless everywhere I would need to use it including your house.

 I was just thinking about that. I have my iPhone for 3G coverage. So I can get whatever I need just about anywhere with that. So maybe the WiFi will work fine for me. Then when they come of with version 2 with the webcam I will go to the 3G version. :lmao:

Apple is expected to unveil the second generation iPad today. I can't wait to see what it holds in store. Seriously, I can't wait. I'm, like, feverishly pacing back and forth here - wore out the exercise bike trying to burn off anxious energy. Thankfully the Supreme Court handed down a significant ruling that distracted my mind for a few minutes. Come on Apple - HURRY UP!

Okay, I'll be serious now: I am looking forward to seeing what new functionality will be incorporated into a new version of the ops system (announcement of which I'm assuming will accompany announcement of a new iPad) which will affect my original iPad (please, please, Mr. Jobs, give me back my screen orientation lock hardware switch - or, at least, functionality that lets me set that switch for such purpose if I want to).

The success of the first generation iPad has been even greater - and more immediate - than even I anticipated. Unit sales numbers have been absolutely ridiculous. It's been a bona fide phenom and significant game changer - even points to being, in the long term, a landscape changer. Can Gen 2 deliver transformative improvements, or is it destined - much as most sequels of the classic movies were - to disappoint? I suspect it won't do the former, but perhaps it won't do the latter either.

Ughhhh! :banghead:

So much for the slim possibility that I might be able to hold out for iPad 3 before buying another one (or two).
