If chick felt the need to check his phone, then chick suspected something and wasn't as "trusting" as she'd like to believe.
If dude was sending dirty texts to some chick in Florida it was for the attention, and not because he ever really intended to act upon it. That doesn't make it right, but it does show a fatal flaw in the relationship he's currently in.

It's hard to control when we feel it though. Sometimes we cruise through life without ever feeling it, and then out of the blue it might strike and knock us on our butt.

She's flawed in her distrusting nature of someone she's considering spending the rest of her life with. He's flawed in his attention whorish behavior and his willingness to see out attention outside of the relationship he's considering spending the rest of his life in... but the relationship is then flawed because it's on an unsteady foundation.
