Oh but I was assured that they will only take 65% of my wages. And the rest will just be put into arrears. That should leave me $735 a month. Since my rent is $700 a month it would seem that I will be homeless after the first deduction This system makes a criminal out of even the honest fathers who try to do the right thing. i think I just want to cry.

How many kids you got? If your financial situation has changed I would assume they would adjust it accordingly. I use to get CS before I realized eliminating the middle man got me more and often(er).

If they are hell bent on making you pay $1400 I don't think getting another job or a side gig would make them try to make you pay more. If so, you're right the system bites. I don't agree with the way courts financially disregard the absent parent who hasn't proven to be a deadbeat in the past.

If the absent parent is financially unstable due to CS payments wouldn't that eventually screw them up overall? If I remember correctly every time the absent parent makes more the custodial parent can take them back to court to get more. If the financial responsibilities are not taken into account of the absent parent then it's back to the drawing board. Like a rat race.

I have been giving her $700 a month since I got fired but they are gonna count arrearges from july 06 which is when I was making more. This is just Fukced up now I see why so many fathers up and run.

Based on your job now, I don't see how they can expect you to pay the same thing you were paying before. You didn't up and quit your job so you wouldnt have to pay. I would try to contest it.

The CS cut is based on gross, not net income. Evidently they think nobody pays taxes

I have no clue what kind of legal situation this is because I never knew about such an appeal cost as that but I hope that someone comes in contact with you who can offer you some solid advice and guidance so that this situation can be fair to everyone involved.

I'm so sorry Dougster, they are doing this to my little brother too and it absolutely sucks! Take the help your father is offering you because you will never get ahead if you don't! My parents are helping my brother in his fight, otherwise he WOULD have to get up and run! Please Please Please take the help!

Wow I am all for child support but this seems to be a bit excessive. They must be going by a previous income you had. You really need to talk to someone and get that fix. Plus the ex can get it lower. If you are on bad terms with her then that is unlikely. My uncle had to play nice with his ex so that she will kept the payment low. But they lived in PA and I believe thing are completely different with CS over there.

The laws are in place to protect you from this. You need to read the law and use it. You can appeal without a lawyer as long as you understand your rights.

You absolutely have to pay for your kids, which you say you are doing, but you do not have to become homeless to do it. Fight for a fair amount.

If all else fails, buy some spray paint.

You are correct. I was on the other side of the coin when I had to take custody of my daughter. I used no lawyers to represent me and a lawyer was appointed by the state to represnt my daughter as thats the way the law works. You should be able to go in and plead your case. Its based on Money and if you make less then you should pay less. Sounds like this guy is busting his azz to do whats right but getting hosed for his efforts.

Go to the court house. Someone in Child Support Enforcement should be able to give you some direction. Act right and you will be treated right.

You also got some good advice about contacting the appropriate office. You should keep track of what you borrow from your dad and just pay him back when you can. That's what family is all about.

Is this just CS or combined with Alimony and other issues?
I agree that is an insane amount of money. Hopefully your children are teenagers and you won't have to pay it that long!
