Just how do you handle this?

Well, I'm sure the judge listened to all of the evidence and decided 3rd degree sex offense. It is a crime, yes, but one in which the parents were aware of, and this is why he doesn't have to register as a sex offender. I think the decision was correct. 9 years difference is a huge gap when she is 14 and he is 25 but maybe she is more mature and he isn't, so somewhere in the middle of the road, it works.

It's interesting that most of us had such a negative reaction to this guy - I know I did.

My how times change.

My great grandparents were married when she was 15 and he was 22 or 23 and that's considered a "sweet" love story in our family. But today, that would be child molestation and my grandfather would be sneered at in the community.

So isn't it interesting how our attitudes have changed over the years? I think it's because we don't raise our daughters anymore with the sole purpose of them catching a husband - we raise them to follow their dreams, get an education, pursue a career, etc. And of course you can't do those things if you're married and have babies.

I just think that in "the old days" female children were seen by many as chattel to be traded to benefit the rest of the family - which is why so many married much older men. In the poorer classes it was how much the guy could contribute to the farm - or maybe just getting rid of an extra mouth to feed - and at a much younger age than upper class. The rich didn't get rid of theirs until around 17 and they were always casting around for "a good match". Suitors 20 or 30 years older were not uncommon.

My grandmother was a "child bride" of 15 who became the second wife of a 33 year old. They were dirt poor farmers. The other grandmother came from upper middle class, finishing school and all that. They married her off to a guy only 8 years older and from a good family - so there was potential. Little did they know he'd become the "black sheep" of the family and follow his heart instead of his income.

I'm surprsed if he's military, that thay haven't locked him up under the guise of 'protective custody'. Similar situation put the soldier under house arrest with an armed guard at his door, for 'his protection'. ANd reading further, if the civilians don't press charges, that leaves the military wide open to run with the ball.. even the simplest thing as Adultery is still illegal in the military, sodomy.. and of course sex with a minor.. have ANY of his senior leaders told him to cease and desist? Just because the civilians haven't done anything, make a formal complaint to the chain of command... or (in the Army it was CID) whatever investigative branch the Navy has..

What does that statement have to do with the price of tea in China
Well....

Bresamil's grandfather was a ship captain and his main run was to and from the Orient, bringing goods back and forth. If he was unhappy about something, he couldn't navigate his ship properly and would frequently get lost at sea and his crew would have to consume cargo to survive. So if they drank all the tea they brought back from China, there would be less to sell and it would have to be sold at a higher price in order to make a profit. Once grandpa got married, he was much happier and made his deliveries on time with his cargo intact, thereby affecting the price of tea in China.

Hello boys and girls, today's word for the day is "overreacted"

It means to react with unnecessary or inappropriate force, emotional display, or violence.

Now, let's use it in a sentence.

Hollowsoul somewhat overreacted when he made this post, but we must remember that we are all guilty of overreacting at one time or another.

Now, if I don't find me a bagel, I am going to do some serious overreacting. :tantrum:
